These Oscar nominees are perfect picks for your home cinema experience

The Grammys. The BAFTAs. The Oscars. It’s that time of the year when awards ceremonies come in full swing.
The 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15th and this year there have been some releases to celebrate. And a number of the nominated films have already made an impact on me with their sonic and visual contributions.
Hamnet

Maggie O’Farrell’s debut novel Hamnet is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you with a warm heart and teary cheeks. So it was perfect to adapt it to an equally tumultuous film.
O’Farrell hands over to him Nomadland director Chloe Zhao (although they wrote the screenplay together), resulting in a tender but deeply moving film that will stay with you long after it’s over.
The film depicts the life of William and Agnes Shakespeare, as they come to terms with the loss of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet.
Paul Mescal stars as the famous author, and Jessie Buckley shines as Agnes – and rightly picks up a nomination for best actress.
Hamnet it looks stunning, with lush green forests and dimly lit Tudor interiors, all delivered in natural colors and subtle details – a perfect challenge for projectors and TV screens.
He is known for his work Astra ad again Waltz and BashirMax Richter’s music enhances the whole experience. Subtle and stripped down, it only appears at the most gut-wrenching moments and makes for a functional, ethereal accompaniment.

Frankenstein
Watch it open
From one adaptation to another. This is Mary Shelley’s place Frankenstein has been featured many times on screen, since James Whale Bride of Frankenstein in a highly focused release in 2015, Victor Frankenstein.
As an avid fan of the original novel and the proud owner of a copy with dog-eared pages and scribbled notes in the margins, Guillermo Del Toro’s entry into the catalog is one of the best I’ve seen.
Del Toro brings the gothic tone of Pan’s Labyrinth and the magical feeling of Water Conditionshowing the complex relationship between the famous scientist and his creation.
While it boasts Del Toro’s signature visuals, the sound in Frankenstein is also unique. And the judges seem to agree, as they were nominated for Best Sound.
You only need to look at the opening to see that this is the case. As the group of sailors make their way across the tundra back to their frozen ship, they encounter the dying Victor Frankenstein (played by Oscar Isaac), injured and covered in frost.
The howl of sled dogs and shouts from crew members, as well as the crackle of fire from burning torches and the cold whistle of the wind, all come at the listener from all directions, truly embodying the precision and accuracy of a home cinema system.
If it doesn’t win the Best Picture award, I mean it can be awarded for its excellent soundtrack.

They are sinners
Watch it open
You may have noticed Ryan Cooler They are sinners made headlines recently, as it made history by becoming the first film to win 16 Oscars. It is up for multiple categories, from Best Picture to Best Casting (a new category).
The film follows twins, Smoke and Stack, who return to the 1930s Jim Crow South to start anew.
But when they open their juke joint, they are followed by vicious vampires. Drawn by their cousin Sammy’s (portrayed by newcomer Miles Caton) ability to summon spirits from the past and future, the supernatural beings decide to join the group.
Michael B Jordan portrays the twins with a fiery charisma that will instantly captivate you, and he earned a nomination for best actor for his performance. British actress Wunmi Mosaku’s excellent portrayal of botanist Annie also won her a Best Actress nomination.
Ludwig Göransson’s soundtrack really makes the film stand out as an excellent screening disc. As a regular editor with Coogler, including the opening The Black Pantherthe two have completely nailed the marriage between film and music.
When Sammy unconsciously uses his guitar to call upon the lives of spirits, past, present and future dance together in beautiful abundance. There aren’t many movies where you can see the electric guitar player of the future jumping around with the drummer of the past.
There is no denying that They are sinners is unique – but how many Academy Awards it will win remains to be seen.
