SwitchBot’s AI Hub gets OpenClaw support

SwitchBot’s new AI Hub is a really smart addition, and with native OpenClaw support, it takes smart home control to a whole new intuitive level.

OpenClaw is an open source AI assistant designed for real-world tasks, and SwitchBot now bakes that capability right into the hub. Forget jumping between different apps or dealing with confusing setups; AI Hub lets you manage everything easily by sending natural language messages through the platforms you use every day, like WhatsApp, iMessage, or Discord.

The OpenClaw update is scheduled to arrive via over-the-air (OTA) at the end of February. Once active, it turns the AI Hub into a powerful, home-based AI agent. This means you can connect to a variety of major language models and use them to automate everything from your lighting and security to your electronics.

By maintaining deep system-level access to OpenClaw contained in a dedicated hub, SwitchBot also thoughtfully handles security concerns, ensuring a secure environment for all your AI operations.

But AI Hub isn’t just about OpenClaw. It’s also the first edge hub to include visual language modeling (VLM) capabilities, giving it an almost human-like ability to understand what’s going on in your home.

When paired with the SwitchchBot’s cameras and video doorbells, it can detect certain real-world events, such as someone dropping a pet, and quickly send contextual alerts.

This is a significant leap beyond basic motion detection, allowing the system to learn processes and even suggest actions proactively, such as activating a smart lock when a known family member approaches the door.

For the tech-savvy, it also functions as a powerful Network Video Recorder (NVR) with built-in Frigate integration, supporting up to eight cameras, complete with facial recognition and data storage expandable up to 16 TB. Finding a specific moment in your video is easy thanks to AI-powered video search, and daily home reports keep you informed without the noise of constant notifications.

SwitchBot’s Skills platform will integrate with OpenClaw in March, ultimately enabling cross-platform automation with Home Assistant, Apple Home, and Google Home. This means you’ll be able to control devices across different ecosystems using direct commands, and chat.

Supporting over 100 SwitchBot devices, acting as a Matter bridge for up to 30 products, and featuring dual-band Wi-Fi, the AI Hub is deeply engineered to be the undisputed central brain of any modern smart home.

SwitchBot’s AI Hub intelligently combines OpenClaw support with advanced AI analytics and seamless automation. It’s more than just a piece of hardware; it’s a really chatty, active assistant that makes smart home managers feel really useless.
