Meta recently announced a major change in its artificial intelligence lineup with the release of a new model called the Muse Spark. Instead of sticking to its old Llama plans, the tech company is moving forward with a closed design built from scratch. This new system is already available to the public and currently powers the massive Meta AI app.
In the coming weeks, it will be broadcast on other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The company hopes that this new software will close the performance gap with its biggest competitors in the market.
How Muse Spark AI’s thinking mode works
A standout feature of Muse Spark is a tool called Contemplating mode. This setting allows the software to handle more complex problems by scheduling multiple agents simultaneously. These individual agents think about tasks in parallel, working together to find the right answer rather than processing information in a straight line.
The tech company developed this particular mod to directly compete with advanced systems like Google Gemini Deep Think and OpenAI’s GPT Pro models. It provides a significant improvement in power for challenging science and research questions.
During internal testing, the mod scored high on tough logic benchmarks, including Humanity’s Last Exam and FrontierScience Research.
It has many capabilities and a focus on health
Muse Spark does more than just read typed text. The system has strong multimodal vision, meaning it can understand voice input and analyze images quickly. If you take a picture of a store shelf, the software can quickly identify the products and compare them for you. Health information is central to this new model.
The development team directly interacted with over a thousand physicians to select specific training data. This allows the software to generate realistic responses and interactive displays that explain nutrition or exercise regimens. It can also help you understand complex charts and visual data in real time.
Over the past few years, the company has heavily promoted open source development with its Llama projects. The Muse Spark represents a complete departure from that approach, replacing older models entirely. The model is closed source, marking a major shift in how the business plans to manage its artificial intelligence division moving forward.
The newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs led the development of this project, seeing it as the first step on a long ladder to building the entire family of Muse models. Currently, the company offers a private API preview of the software to select business partners.
It also plans to launch a dedicated shopping mode that pulls inspiration from creators across its social media apps to provide highly personalized recommendations.
