- Rumors last summer said that Samsung might use “dream batteries” to improve battery life.
After a long period of silence, rumors about Samsung’s next smart ring may sour any hopes you had for 2026.
This week, a report from EtNews (Korean) says that Samsung may be forced to skip 2026, as they are hard at work on the Galaxy Ring 2 (via 9to5Google). While nothing is certain, these rumors suggest that Samsung’s January/February Unpacked 2027 could be where we look next. The newspaper’s source says that it is “possible” that Samsung could unveil the Galaxy Ring 2 “early next year.”
The allegations continue, with the source implying that Samsung is trying to improve the temperature sensors and the accuracy of the sleep data. In addition, the next smart ring iteration “could significantly increase heart health information.” Blood sugar monitoring, in a non-crazy way, was brought up again, a throwback to past rumors we’ve heard for years.

Comfort in the Galaxy Ring 2 is another matter of internal discussion on the part of Samsung, too. Rumors say the company may be looking to “optimize internal component placement” to facilitate more efficient smart ring lighting.
Let’s talk about the Galaxy Ring 2
We’ve been on an up and down road with the Galaxy Ring 2 for a while. Last year, we thought we might see it during Samsung Unpacked summer, but reports quickly dashed those hopes. It is said that the device was knee-jerk in its “early development” phase, and that Samsung will not launch it until 2025. Some of the qualities mentioned in today’s rumors were mentioned back then, such as the slim build and battery life.

The rumor also claims that Samsung was forced to “re-evaluate” the launch of the Galaxy Ring 2 due to the market. It makes me wonder if everything else he’s trying to do is encouraging him to watch it again. There are longevity issues with smart rings, especially when you consider longevity and the possibility of needing to replace parts. We still have a bit to do, so hopefully there will be more down the road.
Regarding its battery, rumors say that Samsung is pursuing a “dream battery” technology for the Galaxy Ring 2. These would be “all solid state” batteries, which could offer an increase in capacity from 200 to 360Wh/L. In short, we can see a larger cell in the Galaxy Ring 2. It was also surprising to see Samsung’s non-invasive blood glucose monitor featured in these rumors. This is a piece of technology that the company has been working on for years.
Rumors initially thought it might appear on the Galaxy Watch 7, but that didn’t happen. It certainly didn’t happen on the Watch 8 either.
