This Apple TV show seems to be coming out, despite the controversy surrounding it

Look, we’re not going to lie to you – most of the time, when a major streaming series lands on one of the world’s leading streaming services, the story of how it gets done doesn’t contain much drama. Sure, you get the odd passion project or funding situation, but it’s generally not of interest to ordinary people.
Watch it open
You see, some students of film history saw a much bigger problem when they first heard it The Hunt; that is, its plot was strikingly similar to Douglas Fairbairn’s 1973 novel called. Shootand a film made of the same title three years later. When this was identified by French journalists, the French production company behind the series, Gaumont, pulled it from release and began an internal investigation into what had happened.
That investigation appears to have ended now, and perhaps surprisingly ended with the production obtaining the appropriate permits and approvals from rights holders. Shoot (although we don’t know if that means buying or not). This means that the series is already scheduled for release, and will arrive on Apple TV on March 4th.
Gaumont’s statement on the matter is very interesting:
Originally scheduled for December 2025, the release of The Hunt was pushed back after it was revealed in November 2025 that the project, presented as an original work, was based on an existing work, Douglas Fairbairn’s Shoot.
As soon as this information came to his attention, Gaumont, the producer of the series, immediately took the necessary steps to identify the owners of the rights, and obtain the necessary authorization.
Respecting the works and rights of authors is a fundamental principle of Gaumont, which can only be implemented with the trust and transparency of creative artists.”
That suggests that it’s not very exciting as it played out, and while the series looks like it could be a serious and intense work, we think that there was a rift between its creators and the sources of money they used to make it. It’s more behind-the-scenes drama than you’re used to, that’s for sure.
So, will the show itself live up to the interest it has attracted? The trailer looks great, so if you’re a fan of European crime, it’s sure to have a lot of twists and turns to a stressful ending.
