What you need to know
- Google detailed its June security patch for Pixel phones shortly after Android 17 and its Pixel Drop went live.
- The company is still focused on fixing display issues, as well as battery charging issues that were not properly resolved in May.
- Android 17 brings several new features to Pixels, but it also strengthens security and threat detection.
Google’s busy week continues as new security is rolled out to Pixels, carrying a series of recent software fixes.
Android 17 launched this week, and Pixels are getting a feature-packed June Drop. Now, the June security patch has been detailed with a large number of fixes for Pixel phones. The update is rolling out to Pixel 6 and newer devices, marked as vCP2A.260605.012 for global units. Google’s extensive notes specifically point us to several “Display & Graphics” repair issues that have plagued Pixel phones over the past few months.
The two fixes that only work on the Pixel 10 series at this stage include the rare “blinking white dot” and “graphics glitches” during normal operation. The third image resolution concerns the Pixel 8 series, the Pixel Fold, and the Pixel Tablet. Google says it’s rolling out a solution to device freezes that occur when connected to an external display.
The Pixel camera has been a problem for Pixel users lately, too. Pixel 9 and 10 series are getting system crash fixes. Fixes for camera app freezes and crashes are also included in this patch. On the other hand, the Pixel’s battery and power consumption issues continued to plague Google. This month, the wireless charging speed issue should be fixed, along with fixes for wireless charging drivers that failed “during device setup.”
Unsteady audio was another focus Google is currently fixing, along with two issues affecting app crashes and Backup settings.
A laundry list
As usual, this Pixel patch is slowly rolling out to users. We may not all see it at the same time, so look for it to hit your phone soon.
We’re back now with patches aimed at critical charging and display issues for Google Pixels. In May, slow wireless charging issues were a major concern of the company. During that time, users reported experiencing slow speeds between 75% and 80% battery. Ironically, this same problem was credited to issues affecting the Pixels in June, which means the problem hasn’t been completely removed.
I hope these fixes clear up whatever is left. Blurred, frozen, and weird artifacts were a problem for the Pixel 10 series in May.
On the bright side, Google’s June patch joins the larger Pixel Drop. Android 17 is finally here, and the company has started rolling out the new OS and these new Pixel features to users. “Bubbles” and “Bubble Bar” are two new pixel and scrolling features, offering a new way to easily multitask between apps. “Screen reaction” lets you superimpose your selfie video over a screen recording to simulate a green screen without any extra gear.
Android Central Take
Wider fixes often follow Google’s Pixel Drops. I feel like it’s more now considering that Android 17 is here, and any lingering issues from the last few minutes of testing are being fixed as well. Here’s a quick fix for any users whose Pixels are affected by crashes and bugs.
