$$$/GTA 6
How much will Grand Theft Auto 6 cost? After years of waiting, two high-profile delays, and a brutal false start for pre-orders through Best Buy, it’s finally happening – Grand Theft Auto will officially be released for pre-order next week. And now everyone is wondering what the price of GTA 6 will be.
Grand Theft Auto 6 price
I’m not sure if it was the pre-order announcement that didn’t include the price, but that doesn’t happen often. Now that we know when GTA VI will go up for pre-order, and prices are going up this generation – Mario Kart World was released for $80, the question remains, how much will this thing cost?
This time, unlike every other game ever released, I’m not sure it’s that important. There are plenty of gamers out there waiting for Rockstar to take their money who don’t care how much Grand Theft Auto will cost. That’s not universally true, and even if it were, we’d all still want to know.
It seems that most people think that Rockstar will announce the price before pre-orders go live on June 25th, and that may be the case, but I certainly don’t expect anything. This is GTA after all, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the price go up the first time the pre-order listing goes up.
I think it’s safe to assume that there’s a good chance it will go to $59.99, and even $69.99 seems unlikely. Rumors have suggested that the game will be launched with a surprising list price of $99.99, but something tells me that there is a better chance of seeing this thing in what has become the industry’s top level at $79.99 for the standard edition, $100 for the deluxe (whatever it’s called), and something more expensive for the special edition and it can cost anywhere – from anywhere up. up to $250.
Let’s look at the prices in GTA V, add natural inflation, recent economic turmoil, and go from there:
- Grand Theft Auto 5 regular version is $59.99
- Grand Theft Auto 5 Special Edition $79.99
- Grand Theft Auto 5 Collector’s Edition $149.99
Now take that, add the official statements from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently commented on the matter, and sprinkle in inflation in the gaming industry by 2026:
Zelnick previously said that the company is trying to charge “much less” than the game deserves and that players need to feel “the price they’re being charged is fair for what they’re getting.”
That sounds like $80 is about as low as the company is willing to charge for what is arguably an experience that, for many gamers, is worth more than that. Even if you love Mario Kart World and have kids who love it too, it’s hard to argue that GTA VI isn’t an expansive and valuable gaming experience.
So where does that leave us? Most industry insiders and gamers’ guesses have the price of Grand Theft Auto 6 looking something like this:
That seems accurate and, frankly, right to me. It’s hard to believe that Rockstar and Take-Two are going to release what will be the biggest thing in gaming for years to come at $70, but it could also be created with access to the internet and things like that as well.
