Huawei aims to launch the Watch GT Runner 2 on February 26
February 26 is closed for the launch of the Watch GT Runner 2, and Huawei has started warming up with a bunch of short comedy videos. The clips all hinge on the same side, marathon training, in-depth performance stats and a watch that feels well-built for running. An exclusive, Racing Edition variant of the device is also expected.
From what Huawei has said so far, these are meant to be a direct follow-up to the original Runner. It seems to be focused on structured training and preparation for long distances, something that can compete with the likes of the Garmin Forerunner.
The caption points to a smart marathon mode
The company has released several teaser clips on social media in recent days, each highlighting a different part of the watch it focuses on. The most obvious feature mentioned so far is the smart marathon mode.

Huawei describes this as a training-focused device designed to help runners prepare effectively for long-distance events. Although the technical details remain limited, the language suggests a system that adapts training instructions based on performance data rather than static programs. The emphasis is on preparation rather than just race-day tracking, which is consistent with Huawei’s recent push into training-style features within Huawei Health.

The designers also continue Huawei’s trend of linking product development with high-end gaming. The company has already confirmed that the Watch GT Runner 2 was developed with input from marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge and his team, reinforcing the idea that the watch is aimed at runners who train with purpose rather than casually logging miles.
Racing Legend is a program aimed at serious racers
Alongside the standard model, Huawei is expected to launch a special version of the Racing Legend. This version was mentioned in the leak and will probably be part of the February 26th announcement.
The Racing Legend system is described as being designed for professional input for dedicated racers. The leak points to a very special and durable design, which could put it next to the top running watches. The idea seems to be a model that looks and feels technical, without drifting into the full space of an external watch.
One of the rare leak details is the suggestion of 22 band variations related to this type. If accurate, that could give runners a variety of fitness and material options, potentially opening up for racing, training and everyday wear.
What you can expect from the hardware and positioning
Not that much is known about the specifications, so any discussion of the hardware remains cautious. Based on the original Watch GT Runner and Huawei’s current wearable platform, expectations include multiple GNSS bands, improved heart rate tracking and robust battery life.
The most important thing is to position. The Watch GT Runner 2 looks like a professional running watch instead of a regular GT model with more sports features. The Racing Legend edition in particular suggests that Huawei wants to be taken seriously by auto racers from Garmin or similar brands.
Pricing and regional availability also remain unknown. Those details, along with full specs and software breakdown, are expected to be confirmed in a few days
