How to temporarily hide your location in Find My in iOS 27

Find out how to temporarily stop a friend or family member from seeing your location, without letting them know you’ve stopped location sharing.

In context, Find My lets you share your location with other people for an hour, a day, or all the time (Google Maps has a similar location sharing feature and supports both Android and iOS).

However, if you stop sharing your location on Find My, someone else may be notified. Or they can go to the Find My app and see that you’ve stopped sharing your location with them. Similarly, restarting location sharing sends a warning, as shown in the screenshot below.

iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and watchOS 27 introduce a feature they call “Dynamic Space Sharing.” What this does is give you the option to temporarily stop sharing and restart it, without alerting the other person.

During the pause period, even if someone opens their Find My app to see your location, it just shows something “No Location Found.” It does not indicate that you have stopped sharing your location with them for a while.

Pausing the location can be helpful when trying surprise someone on your visit, go out and buy them a gift or an engagement ring, and so on.

At the same time, many people on X shared concerns about this new Apple feature encourages cheaters by giving them the option to hide their location from their partners without alerting them.

That said, here’s how to temporarily stop sharing your Find My location with someone without letting them know.

iPhone or iPad

1) Update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 (both are currently in beta).

2) Open the Get my appgo off People tab, then touch the person’s name.

3) Tap on recently revealed the menu icon with three dots in their name tile.

4) Tap Hide Location of My place section and confirm. You’ll see a label indicating when temporary location sharing starts automatically, or you can return to this screen before then and tap Don’t Hide Location.

Mac

The steps to temporarily hide your location using the Find My app on Mac are the same as on iOS.

1. Update your Mac to macOS 27 Golden Gate or build it.
2. Open the Get my app and then click on the person’s name People tab to expand it.
3. Click on the menu icon with three dots next to their name.
4. Click Hide Location and verify. Click Don’t Hide Location to resume sharing space with them.

Apple Watch

watchOS 27 combined three separate apps — Find Devices, Find Things, and Find People — into a single app called Find My, just like it was on iOS and macOS.

Follow these steps to temporarily stop location sharing from your arm.

1. Update your Apple Watch to watchOS 27 (as of this writing, it’s also in beta).
2. Open a new one Get my appand you should see a icon of two people in the upper left corner, indicating that you are Find People part. If it shows a MacBook-iPhone icon or a Icon of four AirTagstouch it and select People.
3. Tap the person’s name (you may need to swipe down to find them).
4. Scroll down and tap Hide Location. Then, click OK in the popup.
