On this week’s episode of the MacRumors Show, we discuss the latest leaks and rumors surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro.
Tata Electronics, one of Apple’s manufacturing partners in India, was hit by a ransomware attack that led to more than 200,000 internal files being posted online, including parts lists, supplier data, and photos of iPhone 18 Pro test units. The property was illegally obtained, too MacRumors he did not see the stolen files directly.
Among the details of the surprising leak is that the C2 modem may be limited to international models, succeeding the C1 and C1X modems already used in the iPhone Air, iPhone 17e, and M5 iPad Pro. A separate US bill of materials instead lists Qualcomm components, including the SDX80M and other components associated with mmWave 5G, a feature the Apple C-series modem still lacks. US carriers have spent years building mmWave networks, making it a harder feature to leave off the Pro lineup than it was on the iPad Pro or the rumored mobile MacBook.
The leak also coincided with rumors of a more uniform finish to the back than the iPhone 17 Pro’s two-tone design and front-facing camera lenses. Separately, the leaked SIM tray offered another look at the rumored Cherry color option, which is expected to join Light Blue, Dark Grey, and Silver as this year’s lineup, with no black model.
On the camera side, the main camera of the rumored opening is an improvement on this year’s title, although it is not clear how much of a real-world difference it will make compared to the real revolutionary leaps in previous generations, such as the 8x telephoto lens introduced in the iPhone 17 Pro or the sensor and 48-megapixel from the iPhone 14 Pro.
Prices are rising over rumors about the device. Apple has now raised prices across its lineup, citing a global memory chip shortage driven largely by data center AI demand. The price increases for Apple TV and HomePod have drawn a lot of criticism, as both products have been around for several years without accompanying hardware changes.
The iPhone 18 Pro’s own estimates point to a starting price of $1,399, up from $1,099 for the iPhone 17 Pro, an increase weighed against limited RAM and battery, a smaller Dynamic Island, and a more capable N2 chip. The rumored 5G-via-satellite feature will likely offer limited access to certain services like Siri or Maps rather than full Safari browsing.
