“This had a negative impact on morale”: Elder Scrolls 6 devs fear Microsoft’s Xbox layoff at Bethesda will cause delays and RPG collapse

While many development teams were affected by this massive week of 3,200 Xbox layoffs at Microsoft, studios under the Zenimax and Bethesda banners reportedly faced some of the most brutal cuts. They will make a “great change” in their wake, and more than half of DOOM dev id Software was fired and more than 200 roles were removed from The Elder Scrolls Online maker ZeniMax Online Studios.

Bethesda Game Studios – the team behind Skyrim, Fallout 4, Starfield, and the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6, among other titles – has also been hit, with reports that more than 50 of its developers have been let go. And according to a new report from IGN, that loss of talent will have a “major and escalating effect” on the development of the next RPG The Elder Scrolls.
