AMD’s new budget Ryzen CPUs will require careful shopping

Published:

AMD quietly expanded its affordable CPU offerings by introducing 11 new processors across the board. Ryzen 100 and 200 series. Although these additions are intended to bring modern technology to low-cost devices, the system includes several different generations of architecture under the naming convention. Therefore, consumers will need to carefully review the technical specifications when purchasing new hardware.

Ryzen 200 Series: Zen 4 and Hybrid Configurations

The most advanced Ryzen 200 series gets seven new models, all of which use i Zen 4 properties or a hybrid combination of Zen 4 and high density Zen 4c cores. These chips are paired with modernity Integrated graphics of RDNA 3.

  • Ryzen 3 205: This particular consumer model includes unusual configurations including 6 physical cores and 8 threadsdivided between 2 Zen 4 cores and 4 Zen 4c cores.
  • Ryzen PRO 200: AMD has also updated its business segment with four business-focused processors. These options prioritize security and efficiency for business environments, which are almost identical to previous product families such as the Ryzen 8040 series.
New AMD Ryzen 200 CPUs
Model CPU Architecture Cores / Threads Base / Boost clock Integrated Graphics
Ryzen 7 253 Zen4 8/16 3.6 / 4.9 GHz Radeon 780M, 12 CU, 2.5 GHz
Ryzen 7 249 Zen4 8/16 3.1 / 4.9 GHz Radeon 780M, 12 CU, 2.5 GHz
Ryzen 5 225 Zen4 6/12 4.1 / 4.8 GHz Radeon 760M, 8 CU, 2.4 GHz
Ryzen 5 224 Zen4 6/12 3.3 / 4.8 GHz Radeon 760M, 8 CU, 2.4 GHz
Ryzen 7 217 2x Zen4 + 4x Zen4c 6/12 3.0 / 4.8 GHz Radeon 740M, 4 CU, 2.6 GHz
Ryzen 5 216 2x Zen4 + 4x Zen4c 6/12 2.9 / 4.7 GHz Radeon 740M, 4 CU, 2.5 GHz
Ryzen 3 205 2x Zen4 + 4x Zen4c 6/8 2.8 / 4.6 GHz Radeon 740M, 4 CU, 2.3 GHz

The Ryzen 100 Series: A Mix of Architectures and Disagreements

The hardware structure becomes more complex within the Ryzen 100 family. The line originally consisted of 6nm Chips “Rembrandt”. featuring Zen 3+ cores and RDNA 2 graphics. However, the expansion introduces four new solutions based on 4nm “Hawk Point” buildingswhich upgrades the platform to RDNA 3 graphics.

Furthermore, AMD’s official website contains conflicting technical information about these new entry-level add-ons. The new chips are officially labeled as using the old ones Zen 3+ propertieshowever their listed clock speeds and production lithography match it exactly Zen 4 silicon.

By bundling different architectures—including Rembrandt, Hawk Point, and Core processing cores—under just two model series, AMD’s product stack presents potential confusion. Mobile phone buyers will need to read the full specification sheets closely to confirm the exact generation of hardware they are purchasing. Store availability and launch times have not been disclosed.
