Google is following up on the big milestone of its first quarter Android 17 update with a beta that fixes issues that Pixel users have been talking about.
Compared to what Beta 6 achieved, Android 17 QPR1 Beta 7 may seem a little lacking. However, what it does do is release solutions to problems that Pixel users have been reporting for months. Google shared its patch notes on Reddit this week, saying that registered testers with a Pixel 6 or newer phone can start downloading it. There are two issues that users continue to report to Google. Both involve the Pixel’s Quick Settings menu.

This early Quick Settings problem has been reported several times. Google lists seven reports of the problem, each with the same user experience. This issue has been a problem since January, and February has seen quite a few reports. I went through, and Google answered each one, but it seems that nailing takes longer than expected. At one point, I saw Google’s response from May saying that a fix is coming.
Google says it’s making adjustments to “Battery Sharing from Quick Settings.” Users have reported to Google that Battery Sharing “sometimes does nothing” or “sometimes shows the wireless charging animation.” Another round of Issue Tracker reports that Battery Sharing was not working properly. User says “it will close the second I try to open it.” In addition, they say that the UI will incorrectly say that their phone is charging wirelessly if it is “not physically connected to anything.”
Although Google has known about the issue since January, it is now being fixed for Pixel users in Beta 7 to resolve “failure to start charging” and “repeatedly showing the charging animation.” Two additional fixes are rolled out to the Pixel’s quick settings. Please read them below.
Quarterly update soon
- Turning off Wi-Fi created a blank space between the battery and mobile data icons in the Quick Settings status bar
- A crash in the Quick Settings font size control that prevented users from adjusting their text size in the quick access panel
The hope is that we will get to Google’s first quarterly release of Android 17. Usually, this happens around September. Google has been moving fast with Android 17 development, so maybe the timeline has changed. In any case, QPR1 Beta 6 launched two weeks ago, reaching the Platform Stability milestone. This is important for both parties, but especially for developers. Better preparation for their applications to work with this new version can begin. For users, this means we are one (big) step away from downloading it.
There was a problem related to quick settings in Beta 6, too. Users reported a visual error when “swiping too fast” on the media carousel. The quick settings layout and settings icon are affected by this bug. Now, the company is rolling out more quick settings fixes.
