With iOS 27, Apple has focused on improving iOS performance, optimizing everything from system animations to AirDrop transfer speeds. iPhone operation is simple and fast on all iPhones capable of running iOS 27, including iPhone 11 and later.
There are more than 80 improvements for iOS 27 that Apple announced, with 10 of the most useful ones listed below.
Launch of the app
Apps start 30 percent faster in iOS 27, and that includes Apple apps and third-party apps. If you open apps multiple times a day, the minimum load time increases and makes the system feel faster.
Apple says it tested app launch speed improvements using an iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 26.4.2 and iOS 27.
Optimized CPU scheduler
iOS includes a CPU scheduler that manages computing resources for every workload as you use your iPhone. Apple says it has improved the CPU scheduler in iOS 27 to more efficiently manage tasks that require intensive processing.
Apple increased the efficiency of the CPU processor all the way back to iPhone 11, which is part of the reason that even older iPhones feel faster when the update is installed.
Apple is often accused of making older iPhones slower with new iOS updates, but there are noticeable speed improvements in iOS 27, so we probably won’t hear that complaint this year.
Better Wi-Fi to Cellular Transitions
iPhones are better at deciding when to switch from Wi-Fi to a cellular connection, and when to switch from a cellular connection to Wi-Fi. If you’re connected to your home Wi-Fi and you’re walking out the door, you’ll notice a slight loss of connection as your device switches networks.
Apple says iPhone is better by choosing the best available Wi-Fi or cellular connection to help you stay connected.
Rebuild Search Index
Apple rebuilt its search foundation in iOS 27, giving Spotlight, Photos, Mail, and other apps a comprehensive index of content that’s constantly updated throughout the day.
In the Mail app, there’s a new ranking system that displays emails that are most relevant to search queries instead of listing results by date. You will see up to five Top Results now.
Image Loading Time
When you take a photo and open the Photos app, your just-taken photo immediately appears so you can edit or share it. Apple says photos and videos load up to 70 percent faster in the Photos library, testing it with the Photos app that had a library of 50,000 assets.
Waiting for a photo to blur when you quickly switch to the Photos app is a little annoying, but the reduced load time makes taking a photo feel much faster.
The latest camera captures are also being added very quickly to the Messages app’s photo editor.
Automated Messaging
If a message, photo, or video fails to send in iMessage, your iPhone will try to send it again automatically instead of throwing a red exclamation point and forcing you to try again manually.
Sending photos and videos when you have a weak connection also does not stop the message chat while the content is sending. Each photo or video has its own progress bar, and your writing will continue while you wait for the photos and videos to load.
Quick Camera Launch in Low Power Mode
When you turn on Low Power Mode, the Camera app may launch slowly. That’s fixed in iOS 27, and it loads faster than ever.
The camera also draws less power in low power mode.
Fast Keyboard Loading
Emoji and sticker keyboards load quickly, so no more annoying pauses when you want to use emoji. The keyboard is something you use often, so this is a time-saving upgrade.
Mail Badges
If you’re tired of the unread Mail badges that appear when you’ve read all your emails, iOS 27 addresses the problem. The Mail app badge is now less likely to show an incorrect number of unread emails.
Bluetooth
Apple says it has improved Bluetooth power management in iOS 27, an update that is compatible with AirPods, Apple Watch, CarPlay, speakers, and other Bluetooth devices.
Bluetooth accessories must draw less power to make some small improvement in battery life.
Other Useful Developments
- AirDrop transfers are up to 80 percent faster, and AirDrop is faster at finding nearby recipients
- Text recognition on images and documents is fast
- Safari has improved power efficiency and web apps are faster
- Turning on the iPhone, scrolling through the Home Screen and App Library pages, and scrolling through the Control Center are all easy
- The lock screen no longer goes to sleep when scrolling through notifications

iOS 27 Launched
iOS 27 is currently in beta testing, and can be downloaded by developers and public beta testers. It will launch this fall along with new iPhone models.
