3 exciting new Netflix movies to watch this week – and one of them is a classic based on a Stephen King book (Feb. 26-March 4)
Thriller fans looking for their next Netflix watch are blessed with choice this week. Although nothing is added in the coming days newthey just arrived on the streaming service as part of Netflix’s big movie drop on the first day of the month.
If you love thrillers like I do, you’ll want to watch all three. The hardest decision will be choosing who to stream first. He’s found disaster stories based on true stories, Stephen King’s classic adaptations (which saw Katy Bates win an Oscar), and 2010’s best genre efforts that combine the strong direction of Denis Villeneuve and the sharp writing of “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan. That pair is as fun to work with as it sounds.

‘Deepwater Horizon’ (2016)

Mark Wahlberg headlines this disaster drama based on the true story of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion. The film’s real-life inspiration underpins the on-screen events, helping the emotional beats really hit home. Impressive effects are the highlight, and even if the character’s work is pedestrian, “Deepwater Horizon” will make you money quickly.
On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, killing many workers instantly and leaving survivors in a dangerous situation as flames engulfed the installation. The movie version of the events follows technician Mike Williams (Wahlberg) as he tries to lead his colleagues to safety while battling chaos. Also starring Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Dylan O’Brien and Kate Hudson, “Deepwater Horizon” may have struggled at the box office, but it’s worth watching now that it’s on Netflix.

‘Misery’ (1990)

“Misery” remains one of the most adapted forms of Stephen King’s works, and even more than 25 years later, it has lost nothing of its poignancy. Directed by the late Rob Reiner and starring Kathy Bates in her most iconic role to date (the role she won an Oscar for), it’s a sweet tale of obsession taken to bad extremes. It’s also a perfect choice if you’re currently snowed in and looking for a classic movie full of thrills, chills and suspense.
Caught in a blizzard, famous novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) gets into a car accident on a winding country road. He’s pulled over by Annie Wilkes (Bates), a nurse, who just so happens to be the main character in Sheldon’s popular series of books about a character named Misery Chastain. Recovering from his remote home, Sheldon discovers that he is indeed a prisoner. He is kept under arrest and forced to write a new tragic novel to satisfy Annie’s demands.

‘Sicario’ (2015)

Starring “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve and “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, it’s no surprise that “Sicario” is a crime thriller. This extremely intense movie is superbly crafted, with stunning visuals and shocking violence, but a twisting narrative that stands out. It is a film where heroes and villains do not exist, and instead, the motivations of each character are very complex and difficult to explain.
FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) has risen through the ranks of the male-dominated profession and is determined to prove herself. Recruited by a secret group, he is assigned to work under CIA officer Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and gray operative, Alejandro (Benicio del Toro). Their mission is to take down the leader of a Mexican drug cartel, a difficult mission that becomes even more difficult when personal motives and professional egos collide.
