Xbox UK age testing forces many players to quit mid-game
It seems the time has come. The UK is now fully restricting users from Xbox, blocking thousands of features, all in the name of mass surveillance… I mean protecting children, as the government puts it.
The requirement stems from the UK’s Online Safety Act, which mandates age verification on online platforms. The Xbox implementation appears to disconnect players from games, prevent access to party chat, and block certain services until verification is complete.
How Xbox’s age verification system is messing up gamers
Reporting from ReclaimTheNet, which collected multiple accounts on Reddit, suggests that users are being forcibly removed from games mid-game when asked to verify their age. In my research, I found players reporting similar issues, with one saying they had to complete a full face scan before being allowed to load certain titles.
Perhaps the biggest concern is that many users try to verify, but the program itself appears to be unreliable. Reports describe checks taking hours, stopping altogether, or leaving accounts locked out of privacy settings, Discord access, and other key features.

Of course none of the age verification methods work for me, it just says “can’t be verified” which I don’t care if it still lets me use discord.. I don’t understand why my card scan doesn’t work, same bank account I’ve been using for years, face scan doesn’t work…

The UK’s Cyber Security Act has been the subject of heated debate on the internet. Many, including myself, view aspects of the policy as a significant invasion of personal privacy.
While protecting children online is important, many say this approach may simply push younger users to VPNs or other alternatives. In some cases, that can mean accessing platforms that refuse to comply with UK law entirely, potentially exposing them to significant risks.
