Hands on: This super thin card tracker solves the AirTag’s biggest problem

There are a number of smart trackers flooding the market right now, especially with Apple’s Find My network continuing to grow and the recent release of the Gen 2 Airtag. But those new AirTags still have the same problems that the first type had, namely that their form factor makes it difficult to fit in wallets, and they also use disposable batteries. KeySmart’s new SmartCard aims to do away with all that. It’s 1.7mm thinner compared to the AirTag’s 8mm thickness, and it’s wirelessly rechargeable! There’s a lot to like about the new SmartCard, and I think anyone who uses a wallet should consider getting one. Here’s what you need to know.
There are many useful and smart features packed into this little card-shaped tracker. The first thing that stands out is how small it is. It’s basically the size of a regular metal credit card. You can see it attached to a regular credit card below. Their biggest improvement in this new Gen 3 model is their new chip. It offers faster processing, better connectivity with the Find My network, and has better capabilities as well. All that improvement means we go from 8 months of battery life to 11 months on a single charge! Here is the detailed breakdown:
- 1.8mm thin
- Up to 11 months per battery charge
- Charges with Qi wireless charging (works with MagSafe)
- IPX8 waterproof (completely underwater)
- Status light and sound notifications
- Works with Find My and Google Hub

The form factor and wireless charging alone make this tracker very convenient. Just being able to stick the card into one of my big MagSafe chargers for a while and knowing that I can use it for a year without recharging is amazing.
My experience
It really bothers me that Apple hasn’t done something like this. I’m amazed at how small, yet sturdy, this KeySmart tracker is. It fits nicely in my Puncube bag alongside my other cards. It adds no extra bulk and just disappears like any other card. In everyday use, it just disappears like a normal card; there are no pressure points when you sit down, and you don’t have that nasty bump you’d get from trying to carry the AirTag in a regular bag.

Setting up this card on the Find My network was also very easy and almost identical to connecting your AirTag to Find My. Then, once paired, you get all the tracker features you could want. The SmartCard gives you location updates, alerts you when you’re separated from your wallet, and has the ability to trigger a sound to help you find it when you’re nearby. The improved connection reliability from the new chipset seems to help with consistency indoors, which is often where trackers struggle the most. Then, of course, Qi charging is a wonderful aspect of life. As I mentioned above, being able to charge a SmartCard wirelessly is a game changer for longevity. There is no proprietary magnetic charger or obscure battery you need to replace. Just plug it into your wireless phone charger, and you’re good to go for another 11 months!
Price and availability
The KeySmart SmartCard (Gen 3) is available today on Amazon and on their website. It comes in two colors: Black and a new shiny color called ghost. They are sold as 1, 3, or 5 packs. One is $39, a 3-pack is $89, and a 5-pack is $139. I think these are great gifts for anyone in the family, and if you get the 5-pack, that’s only $28 per card! Like I said, it feels premium, well built, super thin, and has all the features you’d expect from a tracker. And while it’s in card form, you can put this on anything. Wallet, purse, fanny pack, luggage, just pair to Find My and watch them never lose anything again!
WHAT DO YOU THINK? Are card style trackers profitable?
