These updates include improved device location context, better processes and ‘Live Search’ for users with an Advanced Google Home Premium subscription.
Google recently updated its Home app with new Gemini Home features and fixes, following complaints and feedback from users of its early access program. Google started rolling out Gemini Home in late 2025 so while it’s still young, these updates should greatly improve Google’s smart home experience.
The main update everyone has been talking about is Nest’s ‘Live Search’ security cameras. Available to Google Home Premium Advanced subscribers, Gemini Home can now answer questions about the state of your home using your Nest camera feed.
Other improvements and fixes introduced by Google are imminent smart lights some users have had problems with it in the past. These updates include improved targeting and classification of multiple households.
For example, if you say “turn off all the lights”, this action will be limited to your home and not to others within the smart home ecosystem. The update includes better targeting of different rooms and devices, so the ‘turn off the kitchen’ command will only affect your lights and not smart plugs or other shared devices are sometimes grouped together in common room applications.

Gemini Home has replaced Google Assistant on smart speakers and displays, and most of Google’s new updates focus on providing better content, including device and location. For example, Gemini Home will now use your home address in the Home app to check information like weather and news updates.
Other voice command improvements include its reliability of daily commands, such as reminders, responses and timers, and its reduced situations where people are interrupted when talking to Gemini Home so that it can understand your request and follow live conversations.
Google has revealed that the startup will be more reliable from now on, and has also rolled out support for the Nest X Yale Lock, and the Nest Wifi Pro.
The Google Home app hasn’t had the best of times as of late. Many Nest users have complained about it errors with voice commandsagain problems with smart lights showing as offline. So, these new updates can really help bring back Google’s smart home and app experience to people’s lives.
