The M6 MacBook Pro may have four new features on the Mac

Apple introduced the MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro and M5 Max this week. But rumors indicate that the M6 MacBook Pro is coming this year as well, with new features for the Mac.
#1: Contact support

After years of explaining why touchscreens on laptops are bad, Apple is reportedly planning to put a screen on its new MacBook Pro.
The M6 MacBook Pro will be the first Mac to support touch input. It will be added as a secondary input method, with keyboard and trackpad/mouse remaining primary.
macOS 27 will be set for change in a number of ways. Mark Gurman writes:
For example, when users touch a button or control, the interface will bring a new type of menu around their finger that provides the most appropriate options for touch commands. The goal is to give users controls that make more sense based on whether they touch or click.
The software will also display the most relevant set of controls based on previous user interactions. And when one taps an item in the menu bar at the top of the screen, a set of controls will expand for easy finger selection.
Other settings will be familiar to iPhone and iPad users, such as “faster scrolling and the ability to zoom in and out of images and PDFs.”
#2: OLED display

Besides offering touch support, the new MacBook Pro display gets another big upgrade.
The M6 MacBook Pro will be the first Mac to offer an OLED display.
We’re still expecting the same 14-inch and 16-inch size options, but in OLED.
If Apple’s iPad Pro tandem OLED display is similar to what happens on the MacBook Pro, it should prove to be a good improvement.
#3: Dynamic Island

One of my favorite iPhone features of the past few years, Dynamic Island, is reportedly coming to the Mac.
The M6 MacBook Pro will not have the familiar notch that current models have. Instead, there will be a small camera cut used for Dynamic Island.
The Dynamic Island will be centered at the top of the display, where it is now.
System apps will no doubt offer similar Dynamic Island features to what’s available on the iPhone, and Apple will hopefully make it easier for third-party developers to add support as well.
Wildcard: Mobile with C2 modem

This is the biggest wild card in the list. All of the above three innovations are highly rumored, but the Mac getting mobile support is less certain.
At the end of 2024, Mark Gurman reported on Bloomberg:
With its modem in the pipeline, Apple is investigating the idea of bringing cellular connectivity to the Mac for the first time. That means users won’t need Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet. So far, that capability has been reserved for the iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad. But cellular connectivity is unlikely to come to the Mac before 2026, when Apple plans a second-generation modem that includes support for faster speeds.
Rumors indicate that Apple has a C2 modem launching this fall on the iPhone 18 Pro, and it sounds like that same modem could be on the M6 MacBook Pro.
With a hardware redesign also coming, the new MacBook Pro could be a good model to launch mobile support. But so far, Apple’s plans are still uncertain.
