Land M4 MacBook Air with the same RAM/storage specs as the new M5 model for $200 less
M5 MacBook Air pre-orders are live and we’ve revealed some deals for people looking to upgrade. You can score a FREE $50 gift card with your purchase and use other Best Buy promotional deals to get one up to. $600 off. But the question remains, is the M5 upgrade worth spending close to $200 more if you don’t have anything significant to trade in? Amazon is giving away select M4 models, and even with the increased storage on the new M5, you can still get an M4 $200 under current.
Apple has added its latest offerings to the new M5 MacBook Air. Now there’s a 256GB storage tier and that means, while the starting price is over $100, it actually lowers the list prices for the upgraded models. For example:
- 15-inch M4 MacBook Air 24GB/512GB $1,299 (Reg. $1,599)
- 15-inch M5 MacBook Air 24GB/512GB $1,499 (Amazon does not sell this configuration)
- 15-inch M5 MacBook Air 24GB/1TB $1,699
As you can see above, despite the higher price on the entry model, the price on the upgraded M5 equipment has effectively dropped compared to the list prices on the M4 MacBook Air with the same specifications.
That said, you can still get a 15-inch M4 MacBook Air with 24GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD for $1,299 right now — that’s $300 below its list price and $200 below the comparable M5 MacBook Air.
Yes, the M5 chip is faster and more powerful, and the SSD inside the new models brings, according to Apple, 2x faster read/write performance compared to the previous generation. You’ll also get a better charger included in the box and the new model has Apple’s N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and Bluetooth 6.

Apple recently raised the entry-level price of the M5 MacBook Pro, making it the most affordable model for $250 less yet.
Along with today’s unveiling of the new M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook machines, Apple also quietly announced that it will no longer sell the M5 MacBook Pro with 512GB of storage – it will now start at 1TB. That means the starting price for the more affordable M5 MacBook Pro has just gone up to $1,699, and may bring more value to the 512GB M5 MacBook Pro that you can still score right now. $1,449.
The 512GB configuration of the base model and the more affordable M5 MacBook Pro are already gone from Apple’s site, and there’s no telling how much stock is left at retailers like Amazon and others.
The 16GB M5 MacBook Pro with 512GB storage that Apple is no longer selling carries a list price of $1,599 – $100 less than the new starting price. However, on Amazon right now you will find this model sitting on the floor $1,449 shipped. That’s $150 off the original list price and $250 less than the new entry.
The only times we’ve seen this 512GB variant go below this was on Black Friday 2025 and we don’t know what will happen to stock as Apple pushes a new 1TB entry model onto store shelves – pre-orders for the M5 Pro and M5 Max start tomorrow.
It’s very likely that we’ll see the new 1TB M5 MacBook Pro come out for $200 or even more, but it’s likely that it won’t be until later this year before we see it hitting the same prices as the 512GB model today, if at all. We’ll never know for sure, but he’s looking at Prime Day in early summer and Black Friday 2026 as the most likely if we had to make an educated guess.

All Apple Watch Series 11 models are $100 off during Mac pre-order week, with deals starting at $299.
It’s Apple’s spring pre-order week, with deals now available on early orders for the new M5 MacBook Air, M5 Pro MacBook Pro, and new MacBook Neo. This offer sits alongside the first cash discount on the new M4 iPad Air, but it also tracks the return of durability. $100 The price drops on the entire Apple Watch Series 11 lineup this week.
As you can see in the list below, all of the most sought-after (and least expensive) models of the Apple Watch Series 11 are now on sale for $100:
Unlike what we were tracking at the end of last month, the deals are now live again on all the case color and band options offered by Amazon.
These deals are equal to the lowest we’ve followed since the release last September, making $100 off the list price you’ll pay at Apple and reducing the official 2025 Black Friday deals. We’ve seen this same offer before Christmas, but if you missed it or weren’t ready to pull the trigger, the deals are back.
