3 Best Portable Chargers of 2026

Top choice

This portable charger has an AC outlet, two USB-C ports, and a USB-A port, and can charge even the hungriest laptops. But you need to provide your own wall charger.

The Mophie Powerstation Pro AC is the best portable charger with an AC outlet for people who want to charge a laptop (or other devices that draw up to 100 W) while on the go. It’s powerful, has great battery life, and is the only model we tested with multiple fast-charging USB-C PD ports and a standard USB-A port.

It gives a lot of power. This Mophie model has the best AC output of the models we tested, putting out 174 W in our halogen bulb range. This is more than enough power to charge most laptops while running, even heavy duty business or gaming laptops.

It has good battery life. With a rated capacity of 27,000 mAh (or about 97.2 Wh), the Mophie comes very close to the TSA’s maximum capacity limit for backup batteries without exceeding it. So, if you like to use your laptop on long flights, make sure you can bring it on the plane in your carry-on luggage. (Many airlines now require you to keep spare batteries within reach, rather than in an overhead bin, so you should plan to pack them in your under-seat luggage.)

In our tests, this model was able to charge our test laptop 1.9 times. In other words, it fully charged our MacBook Air once, and then (after completely draining the laptop’s battery) brought it from 0% to about 90% charge.

It charges and recharges quickly. For self-recharge, Mophie has a USB-C PD port rated at 60 W input and output. We verified these charging speeds in our tests, measuring up to 63 W inside and 62 W outside.

The unit also has a second, low-power USB-C PD port, which is useful for charging a phone or other small device. We measured a maximum output of 24 W from this hub in our tests, which is more than enough power to charge the latest iPhones at high speed.

Fits back paper. Measuring 7.5 inches long, 4.5 inches wide, and 1 inch thick, the Mophie has a compact size and shape that’s easy to slip into a backpack or nestle inside a suitcase.

In our selection, the Mophie Powerstation Pro AC is the only one with a protective flap over the main outlet to keep out harmful dust and moisture. Connie Park/NYT Wirecutter

It has a smooth, high quality. Batteries are rarely pretty, but this one has a neat, professional look. It will blend in with its surroundings, whether you’re working out of a loft or an RV.

It has useful battery status lights. Four small lights next to the power button show approximately how much battery life is left.

It has excellent build quality. Unlike our other picks, it has a rubber cover over the AC, which is useful in keeping out moisture and dust that can damage the internal components. Helpfully, the cover is attached with a small tether so you don’t lose it.

Also, one of the corners has a nylon strap attached which is useful to wrap around a few fingers while holding it to prevent it from falling.

The entire unit is covered in a matte-black metal shell that seems to resist scratches and scuffs, and feels solidly built overall.

It is a great value. As of this writing, it costs $200, which is reasonable compared to many competitors with the same (or less) limited capacity.

It has a longer warranty than other options. Made by a company we trust, this charger is backed by a two-year warranty, which is longer than included in any of our other options.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

It is on the heavy side. This is one of the heaviest models we’ve tested, at 2.2 pounds. But it’s still very portable, weighing about the same as a 1 liter water bottle.

It does not come with a wall charger. This model comes with a USB-C charging cable but no charging brick, so you’ll have to provide your own USB wall charger. But that’s true of most models available.

It has only one USB-A port. This model has one USB-A port, while most of the ones we tested have two. But since it has two USB-C ports, both of which charge phones and other handheld devices faster than either USB-A port, this is a bit of a bummer.
