Xiaomi’s New High End TV Lineup includes AirPlay support

Xiaomi presented a new large-format television on its global site, the Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 98 2026. The model sits at the end of the company’s 2026 TV range and uses a Mini-LED backlight system combined with a 98-inch LCD panel. It also offers, for the first time with Xiaomi TV, Apple AirPlay. There is also an 85” version available.

The TV uses a QD-Mini LED backlight with 880 local dimming points. Zone dimming separates the backlight into independently controlled areas, allowing the TV to adjust the brightness in certain parts of the picture rather than the entire panel. Practically speaking, this is intended to improve contrast performance and reduce blooming compared to conventional edge light sets or LED sets with few areas.

Peak brightness is listed at up to 1,200 nits, which puts it within the range needed for high-impact HDR highlights in bright viewing areas. The panel supports a native refresh rate of 144 Hz, which should benefit from handling fast-moving content and playback when paired with compatible sources.

The TV supports Dolby Vision for HDR content. Dolby Vision dynamically adjusts metadata for each scene, where available, rather than using static HDR parameters. On the audio side, Dolby Atmos support is included. Like most flat panel televisions, the Atmos’s performance will depend on the use of external audio equipment.

Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 98 2026 uses Google TV, which is not common, which provides access to the integration interface of Google content and the app ecosystem. This includes support for streaming platforms available through the Google Play Store, as well as Google Assistant voice search.

The connection includes dual band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as expected for televisions in this category but also with support for WiFi 6. The chassis design uses small bezels with a high ratio of the body of the screen. Mounting options include wall mounting or use with the provided stand, depending on location.

For Apple users, compatibility is limited to AirPlay 2. The TV supports AirPlay 2 streaming from compatible Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This allows:

  • Wireless video and audio streaming
  • Screen mirroring
  • Participate in multi-room audio setup using AirPlay compatible devices

However, the television does not support Apple HomeKit integration. It appears in the Apple Home app, but as a speaker unit, and although it can be controlled through HomeKit scenes or automation to some extent, it is limited to audio functions only. Since AirPlay 2 allows live streaming to multiple AirPlay locations at once, TV speakers – or speakers connected to the TV can come in handy. However, AirPlay also allows this to be used as a screen mirroring target, allowing you to stream video, or still images from an iPhone, Apple Mac, or iPad, which in itself is very useful if you don’t have an Apple TV to connect to.
