Fix Apple Magic Mouse not scrolling on Mac

Go through these troubleshooting tips if the Apple Magic Mouse won’t scroll the screen content on your iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, MacBook, or other Mac models.
Even though Apple’s Magic Mouse is more technologically advanced than conventional mice, it is very simple and works well for the most part.
But if it suddenly stopped scrolling vertically or horizontally (eg, when switching between virtual desktops), the solutions below should help fix the problem.
Enables vertical mouse scrolling
The first step is to check if scrolling is enabled.
- Open it System Settings and select Accessibility.
- Scroll down to A car part and click Indicator Control.
- Click Mouse options.
- make sure’Use the mouse to scroll‘ is open.

Turn on horizontal scrolling
You can swipe left and right with one or two fingers on the Magic Mouse touchpad to swipe between application/browser pages or change desktop spaces. If this doesn’t work, follow these steps to enable the feature.
- Open it System Settings and select A mouse from the lower left corner. You will only see this if the mouse is connected to your Mac.
- Go to More Gestures tab.
- Set ‘Swipe between pages‘ in the action of the mouse besides Closed. Then, open ‘Swipe between full-screen apps.’

Force quit and reopen the app in question
If your Magic Mouse is scrolling through all apps but not just one, save your work in that app, then force close and reopen it.
Turn your mouse off and then on again
Use the small power button on the bottom of your Apple Magic Mouse to turn it off. Then, wait at least 15 seconds before turning it on again. After a few seconds, your Mac should automatically connect to it; if not, connect to it from macOS Bluetooth settings.

Charge your mouse for a few minutes
Even if your Magic Mouse battery is decently charged, connect it to your Mac with a cable and wait a few minutes. Then try scrolling again, and it should work.
Turn Bluetooth off and on, or restart your Mac
If you’re on a MacBook or have a wired keyboard and mouse connected to your Mac desktop, turn off Bluetooth, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
Additionally, consider saving your work in progress across all open applications and restarting your Mac. After this, try scrolling again using the Magic Mouse.
Clean the mouse touchpad
Ignore this option. Use a soft dry cloth or tissue paper to wipe the high touch area thoroughly. Also, make sure your fingers are not wet when using the Magic Mouse.
Forget your mouse and plug it in again
If the above steps didn’t help, pair your Magic Mouse with your Mac again.
- Open macOS System Settings and select Bluetooth.
- Click the info button ⓘ next to the Magic Mouse name.
- Click Forget This Device and verify.
- Restart your Mac and Magic Mouse.
- Return to the Mac’s Bluetooth settings and pair it with your mouse by clicking the button Connect button next to the Magic Mouse under the Nearby Devices the subject.

Delete the mouse list files from the system folder
This is an important solution that should definitely help.
1) Open it Finder and then click Go away > Go to the folder from the top menu bar. Then, go to ~/Library/Preferences.
2) Remove these three mouse-related inventory files from here. You can also move them to another folder, such as the Desktop.
- com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
- com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
- com.apple.AppleMultitouchMouse.plist

3) Restart your Mac.
4) Your computer will automatically create the files you deleted above. Now, try using your Magic Mouse, and it should work.
Update to the latest version of macOS
Install the latest version of macOS if your computer is running an older build.
Try using the mouse in safe mode
Start your Mac in safe mode and check if you can scroll with your mouse. If it’s running in safe mode, that means some apps or processes are causing the problem. Exit safe mode, remove any newly installed apps, and try browsing with your Magic Mouse again.
Reset SMC for Mac
If you have an Intel Mac, reset its SMC, and that should fix the problem.
Reset your Mac’s Bluetooth module
If nothing works, reset your Mac’s Bluetooth, then reconnect all your wireless devices, including the Magic Mouse.
Test your Magic Mouse
Finally, if the problem remains unresolved, get your Magic device checked at an Apple store. If there is a hardware problem, they will be able to fix it.
