I know it looks generic, but I’m digging Nothing’s Phone 4a in its newest tea—Glyph Bar included

What you need to know
- Nothing has officially teased its Phone 4a on social media, giving users their clearest look at its refined design.
- The device remains close to what was offered with the Phone 3a; however, we also see the Glyph Bar placed on the right side of the lenses.
- The Nothing Phone 4a series will be launched on March 5.
Everyone loves a hint of a good brand, and there’s nothing short when it comes to its Phone 4a series.
This morning (Feb 23), Nothing posted a short but sweet teaser of its Phone 4a model a week before launch. We usually expect a few colors from Nothing, and its latest teaser shows a white device. While the brand maintains its aesthetic, the Phone 4a features a horizontal camera inside a pill-shaped housing.
This design is very familiar, especially if you remember what the Phone 3a looked like (see the hero image at the top of this article). The rounded corners of their main structure remain very similar; however, the biggest change comes with its Glyph Lighting.
The previous series contains three LED strips scattered around its camera array. The funny thing is now the Glyph Bar is straight to the right of its lenses. The caption shows the LEDs in a gradient, flowing from gray to white with a single red square at the bottom. Nothing fancy has changed the way its Glyph lights have worked in the past, pushing it even further into the notification spotlight. There’s a strong possibility that that’s what these LEDs will do, too; it’s just that How they do what is in the air.
Again, there is nothing funny about the fact that the Phone 4a series will launch on March 5.
“Remodeling” is elsewhere
“Controllable mini LEDs,” is how Nothing described the Phone 4a’s new take on its Glyph light last week: the Glyph Bar. Unfortunately for those who want to know the details, nothing else was said, except that the bar will feature nine LEDs. Its post also teased that the headlights are 40% brighter than what consumers were previously offered on the old a-series.
This brings us to the design of the Phone 4a, which looks very close to the Phone 3a. Others in the comments on X have pointed this out, too. Last month, Nothing’s CEO Carl Pei said the Phone 4a series would be “fixed,” but it seems that wasn’t intended for its design (at least, not the base model). Pei said the series was getting improvements in camera, display, and performance. Hopefully, we see more noticeable changes under the hood as the design may stay in the same ballpark.
Android Central Take
It’s hard to say that I’m surprised by how the iPhone 4a looks. This feels like Nothing. It felt like it was done in the past, and I didn’t care for how it looked to repeat the past. The biggest changes here, on its back panel, are around its camera. The large, circular design of its horizontal camera is changed, as it changes to the Glyph Bar. A little cleaner and a little more refined. An LED sidebar can be a neat way to display notifications and order progress, too. I would imagine that these LEDs could light up as a notification route and possibly once at a time, before hitting red, for orders.
