Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 brings ECG and marathon focus

Watch GT Runner 2 is the latest watch from Huawei. The new model pairs a lightweight titanium-based case with ECG support, dual band GPS and a quoted 32 hours of GPS battery life.

The position is clear. Huawei wants this to stay at the top of its focus list rather than a smartwatch with a few added sports modes.

The design and materials point to a simple structure

The Watch GT Runner 2 packs a 1.32 AMOLED round display and retains a two-button layout on the right side. The case is much smaller (10.7mm) than the 2021 edition and part of it is made of titanium, which means that Huawei has tried to reduce the weight (43.5 grams) without sacrificing durability or strength.

The new device has a clean shape, with few features around the bezel. Color accents appear subtle, with blue and orange options breaking up the neutral look. Standard band compatibility remains, which is important for runners who already have their preferred bands.

Huawei also introduced what it calls AirDry straps. The idea is simple. Raised seams reduce the amount of fabric in constant contact with the skin, while small gaps improve breathability. For long runs or races, that focus on moisture and comfort makes practical sense rather than a positive change.

Health tracking extends beyond functional metrics

An important addition is ECG support – something we don’t often see in a running watch. This feature previously appeared on the Watch D2, and its inclusion here shows Huawei’s intention to blur the line between a sports watch and a health monitoring device.

Heart rate variability tracking is also mentioned, which goes hand-in-hand with more training-focused content. HRV data can support recovery analysis when used carefully, although its value depends more on context than on single readings.

SpO2 monitoring and continuous heart rate tracking round out the sensor set. Nothing here sounds experimental, but the combination suggests that Huawei is aiming for a broader picture of life than just speed and distance.

The watch includes an internal speaker for hands free calls and NFC for mobile payments.

A runner’s watch with excellent battery life

Huawei relies heavily on the new Intelligent Marathon mode. It is described as a wrist trainer that supports preparation before race day and guidance during the run itself.

This includes speed support, workload management and post run feedback. This coincides with Huawei bringing Eliud Kipchoge on board as a public figure at launch, cementing its credibility with serious runners rather than casual users.

Dual band GPS is now part of the package, Huawei claims improved routing accuracy thanks to the new 3D floating antenna. In fact the antenna is said to have 3.5x better performance compared to its predecessor. The updated antenna works in conjunction with a new inertial positioning algorithm that uses accelerometer and gyroscope data to keep track tracking more accurate when GPS is down, such as in tunnels and underground areas.

The 540mAh Si-C battery claims to last up to 14 days in normal use and up to 32 hours when GPS is active. If those figures hold up to real-world use, the Runner 2 should comfortably cover marathon training blocks and race day without worrying about charging.

These numbers also reinforce the idea that this watch prioritizes endurance over app-heavy smartwatch features.

Regional availability

The Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 will be launched on February 26, 2026. In the UK the price is £350 (check the latest prices and availability on the Huawei website). The color selection is between Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue, and Midnight Black.

Overall, this looks less like a cosmetic refresh and more like a focus boost. Huawei seems to be refining what a dedicated running watch has to offer, with comfort, battery life and essential training tools more important than the broad ambitions of a smartwatch.
