Xbox CEO Asha Sharma responds to fake player and AI claims

Over the weekend, and following the announcement that Asha Sharma is the new CEO of Xbox, a wave of claims began to circulate on the Internet. Some accuse him of being produced by AI. Some suggested that he was faking his tweets. Almost every angle was chosen separately.
That speculation got to him, prompting Sharma, on his first day in the role, to respond directly. IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey responded, vehemently denying the claims.
So, let’s look at what it says. It was an epic weekend for Xbox fans, and Monday didn’t let things down. Between the failure of the “Xbox” marketing campaign and many taking X about Sharma as CEO, the discussion quickly got out of control.
Some of it was cautiously optimistic. Most were not. A few people in X (and I won’t mention names), accused Sharma of being a fake gamer. Some have even suggested that he is an AI bot.
Ryan McCaffrey shared his concerns, albeit in a more thoughtful way. He suggested that he at least have someone more knowledgeable about video games around, to help him navigate things. Sharma saw the post and responded this morning, saying:
I agree. Cheating can be a bad idea and won’t work. I also didn’t expect my gamertag to explode and the truth is boring. I created it recently to learn and understand this world. I played with my family, and the home account is shared on all devices (which you can see in the range of games /achievements). Fixed that this weekend and everyone is playing with their GTs only. But I get where this is coming from. I don’t pretend to be the best player and even if I play, that’s not my goal anymore. My focus is to make Xbox the best place to play, get back to our roots, ship great stuff, and be strong for the future. And yes, I write my own posts 🙂
Asha Sharma, Xbox CEO
That answer certainly challenges the claims being made, whether people choose to believe him or not. He also spent the weekend responding to fans directly on X. We’ve covered a few of the most notable trades already, and you should check them out.
Personally, I’m impressed so far, cautiously. Xbox has a lot to prove.
As much as I believe Phil is the reason we have an Xbox to criticize today, it needed a new power. I hope this can be that change. With his team starting to take shape, hopefully it won’t be long before we start to see what the future of Xbox looks like.
Are you satisfied with Asha Sharma’s answer?
Do you believe Asha Sharma’s response has addressed the concerns, or do you think Xbox still has a lot to prove under its new leadership? Let us know in the comments and be sure to take part in our poll below:
