Why is the Galaxy S26 Ultra Samsung’s best display yet?

While every part of a smartphone contributes to the overall user experience, the display is arguably one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. And with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung has polished that piece to near perfection.

On a superficial level, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s screen doesn’t look much different from its predecessor. It’s still a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 1-120Hz refresh rate, 2600 nits peak brightness, and the same 3120 x 1440 resolution.

But you’d be wrong if you thought this was a recycled screen. In fact, it is very different and undeniably better. Here are the display features, new and returning, that make the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s screen the best in the series yet.

NEW: What is Privacy Screen?

If you thought mobile innovation was dead, this brand new feature from Samsung might convince you otherwise. The Privacy Display debuts on the Galaxy S26 Ultra and, frankly, it almost looks like technomagic.

Privacy Display allows the Galaxy S26 Ultra to make the entire screen, or just parts of it, readable at an angle. Similar to a split screen protector, it prevents strangers from seeing what’s on your screen as long as they’re not looking directly at you.

Here’s the magic part: this isn’t just a polarizer layer on top of the screen. Samsung has built a privacy display right into the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s panel. It’s not a trick of software or a sheet of plastic. It works at the pixel level and can be enabled or disabled, fully or partially, with a quick toggle.

Half Screen Privacy limits the visibility of notification pop-ups, and Top Privacy Protection it obscures side views, too. Everything works, even when you switch between portrait and landscape.

Even better, according to Samsung, Privacy Display doesn’t affect brightness levels, viewing angles, or image quality anywhere when it’s turned off. When the feature is disabled, the AMOLED screen is as bright and clear as ever.

And even when the feature works, Samsung says it keeps the content clear, bright, and comfortable for the user to read.

NEW: Finally, a 10-bit display. Why is this important?

Apart from releasing technology like the magic of the Privacy display, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is also the first in the series to feature a true 10-bit display. Earlier models used 8-bit panels.

What is the difference? A 10-bit display can provide much more color information than an 8-bit panel.

Basically, this means smoother gradients and less noticeable color mixing. In other words, the material should look rich and natural.

Generally, 10-bit monitors are used by professionals who need reliable color rendering. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is not a pro-grade device in that sense, but the upgrade still improves image quality whether you see it quickly or slowly over time.

Return: Corning Gorilla Armor 2

Another important feature that helps make the Galaxy S26 Ultra display the best among the Ultra models is Corning Gorilla Armor 2. This is not entirely new, but it is an important returning feature.

The original Gorilla Armor first appeared on the Galaxy S24 Ultra in 2024, and Samsung upgraded the S25 Ultra with Armor 2 the following year. In 2026, Samsung maintains the same level of protection as Armor 2 because it is still the best and latest version from Corning.

Although not completely new, using Gorilla Armor 2 is good. The technology offers two important advantages.

  • First, there is an anti-reflective coating, which makes the screen visible and easy to read in bright environments, including sunlight.
  • Second, it improves scratch resistance. On the Mohs scale, the screen of the Galaxy S26 Ultra should be slightly higher than the usual Gorilla Glass solutions. Although it’s worth noting that the original Gorilla Armor on the S24 Ultra wasn’t even scratch resistant.

This is just the beginning

Without a doubt, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s screen is the best Samsung has ever used on a Galaxy S Ultra phone. But the above factors still do not paint the full picture.

A host of other smart elements help cement the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s position as a flagship phone. The Ultra is still positioned differently to support the S Pen, for example.

And like other Samsung flagship phones, the Galaxy S26 Ultra features lock screen wallpapers and the Now Bar on Always On display.
