Google has just completed its new version of the photo generator called Nano Banana 2, and it is much improved than the previous version.
One of the most common use cases for AI chatbots and models today is image generation. People love to convert text information into images, and Google has been pushing hard in this space. The company launched the Nano Banana in the second half of 2025 and later upgraded to the Nano Banana Pro in November, which went viral. Now Google has officially launched the Nano Banana 2.
Nano Banana 2, technically called Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, brings all the best of Nano Banana Pro with high accuracy and fast performance. Google says the Nano Banana 2 has access to real-time information from the web and advanced text translation, allowing it to generate accurate and readable text for marketing images or greeting cards.
The biggest change this time is availability. Nano Banana 2 brings Pro-level photo production to all Gemini users, not just paid subscribers. It can produce images from 512 pixels all the way up to 4K with multiple resolutions without any problems. The model also follows complex instructions strictly, so that you get closer to what you asked for.
Consistency has always been one of the biggest challenges in graphics, but Google says the Nano Banana 2 maintains character consistency for up to five characters and object fidelity for up to 14 objects within a single workflow. It also promises brighter lighting, richer textures, and sharper details overall.
Nano Banana 2 now replaces Nano Banana Pro for most users in the Gemini app. However, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will still be able to access Nano Banana Pro through the three-dot menu. Google also makes it easier to generate images by allowing users to choose specific viewing styles for their results.
Nano Banana 2 is becoming Google’s default model for image production on all platforms. Available in Gemini, AI mode for Google Search, Google Lens, AI Studio, Gemini API, Gemini CLI, and more. The rollout has already started, and users can start accessing it today.
Android Central Take
I haven’t used Nano Banana 2 yet, but considering how much better Nano Banana Pro was compared to other AI image generation tools, I’m optimistic. Google has been steadily improving its graphics models, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it rolled out another solid upgrade to this one.
Thankfully, the company also takes the security of AI-generated images very seriously. Google has now combined its SynthID watermarking technology with the interactive C2PA Content Specification, which is already being used by companies such as Meta, OpenAI, Adobe, and others.
Google says it will now provide users with a clear and contextual view of not just whether AI was used to generate the image, but also how it was used.
