Is Sony changing its PC strategy for PlayStation games?

Sony has been releasing games on PC since 2015, starting with the first Helldivers on Steam. Since then, it has slowly opened the floodgates, with many of its biggest titles now making it to the platform.
Even its latest State of Play felt close to a PC Play Statuswith a heavy focus on PC-launched titles, with a few exceptions.
Recent comments from respected insiders, including an interview from our own Jez Corden years ago, suggest that Sony may be rethinking parts of its PC strategy. That naturally raises a big question. If there is a change, is it possible that the long-rumored Xbox PC plans have nothing to do with it?
NateTheHate, who has a solid track record when it comes to Nintendo Direct leaks, weighs in alongside industry insider Jason Schreier. The suggestion is that Sony may stop bringing single-player releases to PC after a limited exclusivity period on PlayStation.
It’s an unfortunate thought, especially for those eagerly awaiting Marvel’s Wolverine to finally make its way to PC. It may also raise questions about Nixxes, the studio that Sony directly acquired to handle the PC ports, especially since Sony has not been shy about the closure of the studio in the past (rest in peace Bluepoint, gone but not forgotten).
Back in November 2025, during the XB2 episode, Jez also touched on this situation. He said he heard a vague rumor from a reliable source that the PlayStation might be moving away from the PC.
For now, though, it’s important to say that these are just rumors, but rumors from reliable sources in the industry, so make of them what you will.
It raises the question of whether the proposed Xbox console for PC could play a role in rethinking its strategy. If true, it wouldn’t be the first time Sony has been accused of taking a hard-nosed approach to the Xbox.
From refusing cross-play in the early days, to getting a bunch of deals that kept certain titles off the Xbox (a practice that is still maintained today), to trying to block the acquisition of Activision, Sony has never shied away from aggressive competitive tactics. Even the now famous PS4 game sharing video was a direct punch in the face of the Xbox at a time when the Xbox was in danger.
Whether that amounts to little play or smart business depends on where you stand, but the pattern of strong competitive positioning is certainly there.
I recently covered the news of Marvel’s Spider-Man coming to Xbox, as Insomniac said it was impossible, however, I pointed out all the current PlayStation games on Steam that will be played on Xbox PC in the next generation.
