I love to run, and these three light vests are the ones I would recommend for 2026

As we head out into the depths of winter, you may be reaching for your light vest less and less often, but it remains an essential piece of running kit. Night runs, dark days, and early morning runs all require light gear you can trust.
I like to get out before sunrise, even in the summer months, and since most of my runs are in urban areas, I want to feel confident that cars and bikes can see me from afar.
While safety is very important, style, comfort and maintenance are also important. I want to be seen, but I don’t want a vest that interferes with my natural movements, chafes, or doesn’t feel right.
Storage is a big thing on long runs and – if you’ll excuse my vanity – I certainly don’t mean a high-end look that makes me look like a lollipop lady.
Silva

Proviz360

Silva Strive Fly Reflective Vest
If you want a reflective running vest that excels in all important aspects, the Strive Fly Reflective is a good investment, despite being the most expensive in the review here. It’s a sister product to Silva’s well-regarded Strive Fly Vest, which is super light and offers the same features, albeit weighed down by 3g, but with additional light panels, at the same price.
Swedish brand Silva designs products built for life in the challenging Scandinavian conditions. While I haven’t been testing the Strive Fly Reflective Vest in the Arctic, I’ve been out on a number of blustery, rain-soaked runs to see how it handles the British wind and weather.
It’s surprisingly light (123g, XS) and comfortable, a comfortable fit. The three-point binding system is non-slip and flexible, sitting comfortably on large winter layers. Even in windy cars, I didn’t realize I was wearing it. No flapping, no rubbing, no noise.
Storage is extensive, with eight pockets of various sizes providing enough space for essentials if you’re going out for a few hours. The functional ‘hidden’ front pocket easily fits an iPhone 11. There are also attachment points for running poles and an integrated safety whistle for emergencies.
This vest earns high marks for comfort and style, and blends in easily with my running wardrobe. But most importantly, does it bring visibility? During the day, it looks less. Step into the dark, however, and the light triangle pattern comes to life, ensuring you shine brightly and remain convincingly visible on urban runs.

Proviz360 Reflective Full Running X Vest
When it’s time to break out the big guns and put on a vest that will shine like a light, the Proviz360 Reflective Running Vest is the go-to for runners and cyclists alike.
It’s popular because of the amazing reflective properties of the patented Proviz360 fabric, which means that when the light hits it, you shine brightly. The secret lies in the millions of tiny glass beads molded into the material, which reflect the light back to its source, making it visible even in the darkest conditions.
This one-size-fits-all vest goes over the head and fastens at the sides with round Velcro pads. It’s simple, yes, but it works, and while the Proviz won’t win any design awards, it saves you the hassle of playing with switches or complex bindings.
The vest is lightweight, and I was able to easily fold it into a side pocket when my runs stretched from morning to afternoon, and it was no longer needed.
It’s incredibly flexible and works well over my thick running jacket and light base layer. It didn’t flutter noticeably, although I could feel a little movement when it was worn over a light garment, where it had more room to move.
There are no pockets or storage, so you’ll need to wear it over a running belt if you’re carrying stuff. But rest assured, this vest is designed to do one thing very well: show light in the dark. If you’re happy to sacrifice storage and style for looks, this workhorse is a solid choice.

Best for running and long distance walking

Kiprun RACE Trail Running Competition 5L Vest
On Sunday mornings, I usually go out for a longer run than my weekday pre-work walk. I’ll go into the local woods or on the cycle path that connects Bristol and Bath, aiming to be outside for at least a few hours.
Although I may start in the dark, most of these long runs are done in the morning light, so I need a vest that balances the benefits of light with enough storage to carry essentials while I rack up the miles.
The Kiprun RACE Trail Running Competition Vest was designed in collaboration with the Kiprun Women’s Team, which includes British long-distance runner and European U23 champion Alice Goodall, so this endorsement carries weight. On the other hand, the vest is light, it weighs only 190 g, and the fit is comfortable – in fact, it is very small, so be aware that this product runs a little.
After that, the vest stayed tight – no heaving, flexing, or bouncing. Storage is amazing for such a lightweight vest, with 10 pockets.
You can easily spend a day in this vest, as it can hold two 500 ml water bottles, four food and waste packs, a large back pocket for extra layers, and a zipped pocket for essentials and a phone (my iPhone 11 was handy).
The light features are arranged in zones instead of panels, which are slightly limited but provide enough visibility for off-road racing.

The decision
Which vest is right for you depends on where you run, the distances you travel, and whether style is important. All of the above vests excel in at least one of these categories.
If performance is your priority, a tip of the hat goes to Proviz360, which outshines the competition with its award-winning features.
If you’re looking for a vest that combines great visibility, outstanding comfort, and enough storage to see you through two hours of running, then drop the prize to Silva’s Strive Fly Reflective Vest.
