The TL;DR
- Meze Audio has announced a new flagship IEM called ASTRU.
- These feature 10mm single layer gold dynamic drivers and pure titanium shells.
- ASTRU will launch on March 20, 2026, for $899.
Meze Audio has introduced ASTRU, a new flagship single-dynamic-driver in-ear monitor (IEM) that will debut at CanJam NYC and go on sale on March 20, 2026, for $899. The audio company is positioning its latest installment as the top choice for listeners looking for high-end performance from a single-driver design.
According to Meze, the ASTRU (named after the Romanian word for “star”) uses a simplified acoustic architecture built around a carefully designed dynamic driver rather than many drivers and crossovers. Here’s everything we know about them before their official release.
Gold layer driver design

The dome of the driver’s diaphragm has more than 80 very thin layers of gold.
The Meze Audio ASTRU has a 10mm diaphragm with multiple layers of composite driver. The company says the driver dome includes more than 80 layers of gold, which are applied during a 48-hour DC magnetron sputtering process. This is then coated with a layer of titanium and embedded in a Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK) base.
Meze says this design helps the driver balance speed and control while delivering transient response, smooth and extended treble, and natural warmth. While most high-end IEMs house multiple drivers, Meze says the ASTRU can achieve the same resolution and spatial depth with a single driver. We’ll have to put the IEMs through the lab to test their real-world sound quality.
Titanium housing and refined fit

IEMs feature a single dynamic driver.
ASTRU shells are CNC machined from a single block of pure titanium. After that, they are finished with a multi-stage electroplating process that produces a satin texture. Meze says each matched pair requires up to seven days of precision processing, highlighting the company’s focus on materials and production.
The shell geometry has also been refined to improve long-term comfort, helping to maintain consistent isolation during extended listening sessions. The cable wraps around the back of the helix, which is perfect if you plan to use the IEMs on the go.
Balanced cable and portable accessories

The packaging includes a 4.4 mm balanced cable and adapter, five sizes of ear tips, and two carrying cases.
The earbuds ship with a premium cable that uses CNC-anodized aluminum hardware and terminates in a 4.4mm gold-plated balanced connector, a format commonly found in high-end portable DAC/amp devices. To improve compatibility, the package also includes a 4.4mm-to-3.5mm adapter for connecting to common home audio devices.
The IEMs ship with five ear tip sizes, including XS-XL, to help find the perfect fit. They also include a protective carrying case and a soft PU leather envelope case for peace of mind during transport. Combined, this setup allows the IEMs to work seamlessly with both portable sources, such as laptops and smartphones, as well as dedicated Hi-Fi listening systems.
