Pebble Time 2 clears testing and goes into mass production

The Pebble Time 2 has officially entered mass production, according to a new update shared on the Pebble Discord by a Core Devices staff member. The news confirms that the long-awaited watch has cleared its final stages of engineering and that factories are now building units at scale.
The update is in line with previous guidance from the Pebble team that pointed to early March as the production period to begin. That plan appears to be still ongoing, which is a good sign for the thousands of people waiting on their pre-orders.
Achieving mass production is no small feat for a hardware project of this nature. It means that the design has passed engineering verification, manufacturing verification and factory readiness testing. The hardware is now locked. The focus shifts completely to building units and getting them out the door.
Pebble Time 2 carries forward the core idea that made the original platform popular, a low-power smartwatch built around an e-paper display with long battery life. The device runs PebbleOS and supports the existing ecosystem of apps and watch faces that longtime fans will remember. The watch has a water resistance rating of 3ATM, which means everyday splashes and swimming are covered.
The submission window is approaching
The first watches are expected to reach customers in early April, so all pre-orders are expected to be fulfilled around June. Those dates represent a change in actual estimates, as some buyers are now looking at nearly a four-month delay compared to what was originally announced. Additional time went into solving physical problems during product validation, the kind of problems that can’t be patched with a software update after they happen.
According to the context, the factory aims to get around 500 units per day once the production line is properly strengthened. From there the watches go to a distribution center before going out to consumers.
There is an additional layer of meaning to this historic event for many Pebble fans. The original Pebble Time 2 was announced back in 2016 but never shipped after Pebble was acquired by Fitbit. The current project captures that vision nearly a decade later, with updated hardware and a revamped ecosystem behind it.
With mass production now underway, the long wait for the Pebble Time 2 may be coming to an end.
