The launch of the Oppo Watch X3 has been confirmed with a titanium construction and a simple design

Oppo has confirmed the launch date of its next smartwatch, and now we have a clear idea of what the Oppo Watch X3 will bring. The company says the new device will be launched on March 17, launched alongside the Find N6 at the same event.

The announcement follows a few teasers that Oppo shared late last week. Those pieces showed a new way of designing with powerful materials. Now the company has added a few practical details that give us a better idea of what to expect from the watch.

Verified details

First, we have a move to titanium construction. Oppo says the Watch X3 uses an all titanium build, which should improve durability while reducing weight. The new model is about sixteen percent lighter than the Oppo Watch X2. For context, the Watch X2 weighs 49.7 grams.

The device is also thin. Oppo says the Watch X3 is about 6.4 percent faster than its predecessor. The Watch X2 measures 11.8 millimeters thick, so the new model is a little thinner. Combined, the low weight and slim profile suggest that Oppo is trying to make the watch feel comfortable for everyday wear.

Another improvement worth mentioning is the durability rating. The Watch X3 carries an IP69 certification, which is one of the highest levels of protection commonly seen in consumer electronics. That rating indicates strong resistance to dust and high-pressure water jets, suggesting the watch is designed to handle the most demanding environments.

Oppo showed the watch in three launch colors and introduced a new bamboo strap option. The bamboo strap stands out as an unusual choice for a smartwatch, and could be part of an effort to differentiate the device visually from other premium wearables.

International release or only for the local market?

So far, most of the official details have appeared on Oppo’s Chinese social media channels. The company has yet to elaborate on the watch for international audiences.

There’s also the interesting question of how this watch will fit into Oppo and OnePlus’s shared ecosystem. In previous generations, the Oppo Watch X line has effectively served as the Chinese version of OnePlus’s flagship smartwatch. The Oppo Watch X2, for example, became the OnePlus Watch 2 in global markets.

Oppo Watch X3

Because of that history, some observers are wondering if the Watch X3 will finally be seen globally as the successor to the OnePlus Watch 3. Oppo has not confirmed anything on that yet. The company also did not specify whether there will be any differences between the Chinese and global versions of the device.

A look at previous releases provides one clue. The Oppo Watch X2 was launched in China with Oppo’s own software, while the international version shipped with Google’s Wear OS platform. If Oppo follows the same strategy again, the global version of the Watch X3 will probably run Wear OS as well.

With the official unveiling scheduled for March 17, we shouldn’t have to wait long to find out how Oppo is positioning this new smartwatch and whether it will really expand beyond China.
