10+ New Features Coming with iOS 27

We’re only three months away from Apple’s WWDC 2026 event, which will see the company unveil iOS 27. With a completely overhauled version of Siri likely to be delayed until September, iOS 27 is shaping up to be the update we wanted to iOS 26.

There will be new Apple Intelligence features, iPhone Fold updates, and more, with the latest rumors summarized below.

Features of the foldable iPhone

Apple is planning to introduce the first foldable iPhone in September, a device that may be called the iPhone Fold. Rumors suggest that it will have a 5.5-inch display when folded, and a 7.8-inch display when opened like a book.

An iPhone with a larger and foldable display will require some major updates to iOS, and iOS 27 will focus on building new interfaces and experiences for the larger display.

The iPhone Fold will work like a cross between an iPhone and an iPad, but it will run iOS, not iPadOS, and it won’t support iPad apps. When unlocked, the iPhone will have an iPad-like layout that supports multitasking with two apps side by side. Most of Apple’s iPhone applications will have sidebars on the left side of the display, Apple provides developers with tools to easily adapt their applications to the new layout.

Apple is using a wider design for the iPhone Fold than most foldable smartphone makers have used, and it is rumored to have an iPad-like 4:3 aspect ratio. When the iPhone is turned off, it will have a standard iPhone layout that looks like the version of iOS we have now.

Smart Siri

We were supposed to get the Apple Intelligence version of Siri in iOS 26.4, but Apple still has issues with development. Siri still doesn’t work as expected, and it’s not ready to launch.

Some or all of Siri’s new features could be pushed to iOS 27, although there’s a chance we’ll get something new in iOS 26.5. It is not clear what and when we will get, because iOS 27 should also include a chatbot version of Siri that will work like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.

We can get a completely modified chatbot version of Siri with all the new features at the same time, or we can get an update of Apple Intelligence and chatbot functionality in the latest iOS 27 update.

Apple has partnered with Google and plans to use a custom AI model built in collaboration with Google’s Gemini team for some of Siri’s new features, including Siri’s upcoming chatbot functionality.

Apple Intelligence Features Siri We’re Waiting

Apple described three specific ways Siri will improve with the integration of Apple Intelligence, including personal context, the ability to see what’s on the screen to know what the user is talking about, and the ability to do more even between apps.

Siri will understand pronouns, references to on-screen content and apps, and will have short-term memory for follow-up requests.

Your Essence

In a personal context, Siri will be able to track emails, messages, files, photos, and more, learn more about you to help you complete tasks and track what’s been sent.

  • Show me the files Eric sent me last week.
  • Get an email where Eric talked about ice skating.
  • Find the books Eric recommended to me.
  • Where is the recipe that Eric sent me?
  • What is my passport number?

Screen Awareness

Screen awareness will allow Siri to see what’s on your screen and complete actions involving whatever you’re looking at. When someone texts you an address, you can tell Siri to add it to their contact card. Or if you’re looking at a photo and want to send it to someone, you can ask Siri to do it for you.

Deep App Integration

Deep app integration means Siri will be able to do more within and between apps, performing actions and completing tasks that are currently impossible with the personal assistant. We don’t have a full picture of what Siri will be able to do, but Apple has given a few examples of what to expect.

  • To move files from one application to another.
  • Editing a photo and sending it to someone.
  • Get directions home and share an ETA with Eric.
  • Send the email I wrote to Eric.

Answers and Pictures

Back in August 2025, Apple’s head of software engineering Craig Federighi told employees that the architecture renewal efforts were promising enough that Apple would be able to make “much bigger improvements” than Apple originally thought.

Since then, rumors have suggested that Apple will add image-generating capabilities to Siri, relying on Image Playground. Siri is also expected to get a “World Knowledge” search feature that can provide information on common search queries using information pulled from the web. Siri will be able to summarize web results like ChatGPT to answer questions.

Chatbot Siri

Apple plans to turn Siri into a full-fledged chatbot that users can interact with similarly to Claude or ChatGPT. The Siri chatbot will be deeply integrated into Apple’s apps at the system level, and won’t be a standalone app experience.

Users will activate Siri by speaking Siri’s name or pressing the iPhone’s side button, similar to how Siri works now. There’s no word yet on what the Siri chatbot interface will look like, but Apple will need to make some major changes if it wants to match the functionality offered by chatbot apps. Currently, there is no way to have a typed conversation back and forth with Siri where the conversation history is visible, and that will need to change.

The Siri chatbot will be able to do everything that current chatbots can do, such as searching the web for information, analyzing uploaded files, and summary information, but since it will be integrated with the iPhone at the system level, Siri will also be able to import information from data on the device, control device features and settings, use personal data to perform tasks on the screen, analyze additional content, analyze and analyze.

Siri Design Update

With iOS 27, Apple can update the design of Siri. There’s no word on what the redesign might involve, but rumors linked to Apple’s upcoming tablet robot suggest the company might introduce a more animated version of Siri, similar to the Mac Finder logo. That animated version of Siri can also come to iPhone and iPad.

Core AI Framework

Apple will introduce a Core AI framework for developers that replaces the current Core ML framework. The Core AI framework will provide developers with a way to integrate AI models into their applications.

Liquid Glass

iOS 27 is likely to include improvements to the Liquid Glass design that Apple introduced with iOS 26. There have already been some changes in the iOS 26.1 and iOS 26.2 updates, but iOS 27 will give Apple a chance to make some big changes.

AI calendar app

iOS 27 may include an AI-powered Calendar app.

Health Features of AI

Apple planned a full AI-powered Health+ subscription service, but plans have been scaled back. Some features that Apple plans to implement may still be introduced in iOS 27, although it’s not clear what we’ll get.

Health+ is reported to provide health recommendations in the Health app, delivering detailed health reports, videos explaining health conditions, and wellness tips.

New Satellite Features

Apple is working on many new satellite features for the iPhone, and it is possible that some features could be introduced as soon as 2027. The timing of Apple’s satellite development is unclear, however, and behind-the-scenes updates from Apple’s satellite partners Globalstar are needed.
Rumor features:

  • Apple Maps via satellite
  • Images from satellite messages
  • Satellite API framework for third-party applications
  • Satellite over 5G
  • Satellite communication without the need to watch the sky

Some of these features may require new hardware, but options such as Apple Maps via satellite will not require more components than are available now.

Performance and Stability

BloombergMark Gurman described iOS 27 as a “Snow Leopard” update, suggesting that Apple will focus on improving basic performance and quality.

Apple prioritizes cleaning up the iOS code and removing anything outdated, which can mean upgrading apps to improve performance and rewriting existing features to make them work better. Code updates can provide a more responsive, faster version of iOS.

Apple is also aiming to improve performance which would translate into noticeable battery life gains.

Effective Date

New versions of iOS, macOS, and other Apple software platforms will be previewed in June at WWDC before launching in September just before new iPhone models come out.
