The first trailer for ‘Dune: Part 3’ just dropped and Timothée Chalamet’s battle cry has me more than hinting at the epic ending.

“Dune: Part Three” has been one of my most anticipated films of 2026 ever since its release date was announced. But Warner Bros. just released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming sci-fi epic and after watching it a dozen times, this Denis Villeneuve film now stands alone as my most anticipated film of the year.
I’ll go into the full breakdown below, but my immediate reaction is “Holy s***.” My second reaction was to cringe as Timothée Chalamet’s big fight song took over the trailer. My third reaction was to try to cry tears of joy.
Watch it open
And that’s from watching a trailer on a monitor with Bluetooth speakers; imagine this thing in IMAX. Side note: how nice to get two and a half minutes long it’s boring the trailer?

So with “Dune: Part Three” now just nine months away, and the first official trailer under our belts, let’s dive into everything you need to know from this official teaser.

‘Dune: Part 3’ trailer: Chalamet, Zendaya and Pattinson – oh my
For those who need a quick refresher. “Dune: Part Three” is the finale of director Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” trilogy. The first two films, “Dune” and “Dune: Part Two,” were both adaptations of Frank Herbert’s novel “Dune,” the first in Herbert’s beloved sci-fi series.
In those two movies, we see Paul Atredies (Chalamet) rise from the ashes of the Harkonnen betrayal on Arrakis to, nominally, take the title of Emperor of the Known Universe.
“Dune: Part Three,” is a different animal. The movie is based on “Dune Messiah,” Herbert’s much darker sequel to “Dune.” In this story, Paul is deep in a bloody conflict that was killed billions as he looks to cement control over the Empire and protect humanity from a fate far worse than a galactic conflict.
Whether or not the billions will die for Villeneuve’s adaptation remains to be seen, but there seem to be strong indications in this trailer that he and co-writer Brian K. Vaughn will remain faithful to a fair amount of the source material.
The trailer begins with Paul and Chani (Zendaya) together, discussing the names of their unborn child. That may seem strange to those who watched Chani step down from the throne in “Dune: Part Two,” but it’s an important part of “Dune Messiah,” so it’s not surprising to see it.
From there, we begin to see a long conflict. Fremen, who now follow Paul with zeal, fight in many places. Meanwhile, Paul battles the enemy within, including the Bene Gesserit, who appear to be aided by Paul’s wife, Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), and Robert Pattinson’s Scytale, a new character who will be familiar to fans of the “Dune” novel but unknown to the general public.
However, these are not the only familiar faces we see. As the Fremen’s majestic battle cry takes over the trailer’s score, we see Anya Taylor-Joy, Rebecca Ferguson and Javier Bardem all reprising their roles from “Dune: Part Two.” This is where the goosebumps really start, as we see a battle going on with the appearance of what appears to be Duncan Idaho, who appears to be dead in the first movie but was confirmed to return by Jason Momoa, who plays a soldier.
We’ll likely get another trailer before “Dune: Part Three” hits theaters and IMAX on Dec. 18, 2026. But honestly, if we don’t do that, I’m fine with walking away from this wagon alone. I’m already closing in on the epic finale of the “Dune” trilogy for Best Picture at next year’s Academy Awards.
