5 best motorcycles for kids of 2026

We decided not to test the Micro Mini Original because it costs about the same as our top pick for preschoolers, but the non-adjustable handle makes it a short-term use. While the original isn’t sold across the US yet, you can find it through Micro’s Warehouse Deals website.

Because of their smaller, 98-mm wheels and crappier bearings, the affordable Razor A and Razor A2 scooters offer a rough ride, and are harder to learn on than the Razor A3 or Micro Maxi. Smaller tires mean bumps in the sidewalk can send riders flying. The Razor A scooter also does not have a wheel bar.

The Hudora Scooter, with two wheels, is listed for children ages 8 and up. With large, 8-inch wheels (compared to the Micro Sprite’s nearly 4-inch wheels), it feels big, wide, and “like a grown-up motorcycle,” according to one of our testers. The Hudora has T-bar handles that can be folded down, and includes a carrying strap. However, it weighs over 9 pounds, so it’s too heavy for most kids to handle, and we found it to be too big for our little riders.

The Micro Cruiser LED is a comfortable scooter with large bright LED wheels and curved handlebars that give the bike a feel. But at about 10 pounds, this scooter is difficult for smaller riders to maneuver, and the handle bar doesn’t extend as high as it does on the Micro Sprite, so its bulk was too small for our average riders. We also found the folding method to be a challenge.

We liked the deck, stem, and wheels of the Jetson Jupiter, and it provides a smooth and easy ride. But the Micro Sprite has a much larger weight share. And some online reviewers noted problems with the Jetson Jupiter’s lights (when the scooter goes over bumps, the bottom batteries cut off) and durability issues. After a day of testing with the kids at the Wirecutter offices, the brake on our scooter broke.

Razor Jr. Lil’ Kick feels more like a toy than a utility vehicle. Although the deck is as nice and spacious as that of the Micro Mini, the Jr. The Lil’ Kick somehow feels more stable than smaller scooters while also being slower and more compact. The scooter has three wheels but in the usual way, one in the front and two in the back, and it’s the only scooter we tested without a handlebar.

Bird’s Birdie scooter has many features of the Micro Maxi, but the kickboard feels saggy, and the wheels are fatter and more noisy. Since this scooter has only one rear wheel instead of two, it is difficult for heavy children to brake. We reviewed Birdie in 2018; that version is no longer available. The company released a new version (which we didn’t test) called Birdie Glow, which is also not available now.

The components of the Den Haven scooter feel cheap, and are less stable and less difficult to replace than smaller scooters (this scooter is sold under the brand name OxGord). The wheels and deck make more noise than those found on the Micro Maxi and Mini, especially when rolling on pavement, and the wheels are also smaller, resulting in a bumpier ride. Reviewers on Amazon note that the scooter tends to break, especially the rear fender brakes.

We also considered the Radio Flyer My 1st Scooter, but online reviewers note that the scooter is difficult to steer and push, and the overall ride is slow.

The Jetson Gleam is another three-wheeled scooter with light-up wheels and a large, sturdy deck aimed at beginners. We found the overall feel to be plasticky, and it was easy to scratch.

The Globber Primo has attractive features, including an adjustable handle and a steering wheel lock mechanism that keeps the scooter upright. It seems to be aimed at a wide age group, but the height of the handle is only 5 inches, from 26 to 31 inches, compared to the Micro scooters’ 8- to 10-inch width, so the use of this model is very limited. We tested the Globber Primo in 2018. We have not tested the updated version.

The Globber Ultimum and Globber Master are both well-built scooters that performed well in our tests. We appreciated that the Ultimum has a weight limit of 220 pounds — most adults could ride it — and the Master has a weight limit of 110 pounds. But at more than 10 pounds, the Ultimum is the heaviest of any of the smaller bikes, and our testers unanimously prefer the smaller bikes over the Globbers. The folding mechanism on Globber scooters is stronger than that on Micros. Also the prices of Globber scooters are equal to those of Micro scooters. (Micro is a company that has proven to make quality motorcycles that last a long time.)
