Hisense has added a compact laser projector to its line with XR10a portable model using the company’s TriChroma laser light engine. Positioned as a smaller alternative to UST’s larger laser TVs, the XR10 focuses on portability while retaining the core display features associated with Hisense’s premium projection systems. Includes support for AirPlay 2which allows direct streaming from Apple devices without the need for additional hardware.

The XR10 uses a triple laser light source, which splits the red, blue, and green lasers to produce a wider color gamut than a standard LED or single-laser projector. Hisense claims installation near the BT.2020 color space, which is usually associated with high-end projection systems. Projector effects a 4K UHD image, although like most compact projectors, this can be accomplished with Pixel shift there is a native 4K imaging chip. Supports HDR formats including Dolby Visionwhich is not always common in portable projectors. Brightness is measured in up to 2,200 ANSI lumensputting it above most battery-powered or compact models, and making it work better in rooms with moderate lighting than requiring full-on blackout conditions.

Sound is handled by a tuned integrated speaker system JBL. Installation of Dolby Atmos support suggests virtual surround processing instead of multi-channel output, but it should offer a fuller soundstage than standard portable projectors. The XR10 runs Google TVwhich provides access to streaming applications, voice control with Google Assistantagain Chromecast built-in for streaming from compatible devices. Along with this, AirPlay 2 support makes it easy for those of us within the Apple ecosystem to stream content directly from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Ports include HDMI, USBand wired and wireless connectivity options such as Wi-Fi (WiFi 6, and WiFi 7) and Bluetooth 5.4. An HDMI input supports external devices such as set-top boxes or game consoles, while wireless streaming is available for mobile devices. In terms of format support, the projector handles Dolby Vision as well HDR10+which includes the main HDR standards currently in use.

The XR10 adopts a compact, cube-like design aimed at portability, with automatic keystone adjustment and autofocus to simplify setup. This allows for quick placement without manual image adjustments, which are common in lifestyle projectors. Its size and form factor suggest that it is intended for flexible use in the home rather than a fixed installation, although it can still be used as a main display in small spaces.

The XR10 sits among the most portable LED projectors and large laser TV systems. It brings features such as a triple laser light source and Dolby Vision into a small form factor, but without the ultra-short throw design or high brightness levels of Hisense’s flagship models. For users already familiar with laser projection, the XR10 represents a more flexible option, albeit with the usual trade-offs in brightness and placement compared to a fixed UST setup.

The XR10 is available for pre-order through Hisense’s website, at a discounted price of US$5,299 (reg price US$7,999), with early bird customers getting one for free. Hisense HT Saturn sound system, with 4.1.2ch Dolby Atmos/ DTS:X Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer & Satellite Speakers.
