Apple is gearing up to unveil its next big hardware lineup later this year. We’re already hearing solid details about what will power the new devices. The much-anticipated iPhone 18 Pro and the company’s first foldable phone will reportedly feature major upgrades inside and out.
These updates mainly focus on faster processing speeds, improved camera setup, and completely new screen designs.
Newer devices use a smaller processor and custom modem
The upcoming premium phones will use the new A20 Pro processor, according to Debayan Roy (Gadgetsdata) on X. This new chip is built on a 2nm process. The smaller nanometer size means the processor can pack more power into exactly the same space. This change allows the phone to run faster while using much less battery life.
Next to the main processor, Apple brings its custom C2 modem to the new phones. This piece of hardware connects the device to cell towers around the world. By designing its own modem, the company gets complete control over how the gadget handles the Internet connection. It could also bring satellite 5G support, boosting coverage in remote areas where traditional networks struggle.
Premium phones get major upgrades in camera and battery capacity
The iPhone 18 Pro won’t just rely on better chips to attract buyers. The leak describes significant changes to the camera system. Users can expect a 48-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture, which helps the lens to adapt to different light conditions. It also features a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto lens to capture clear close-up images. For selfies, the front-facing camera gets a visible bump of up to 24 megapixels.
Apple is keeping the standard Dynamic Island design for the display, but the device will pack a much larger battery inside. Reports suggest that the battery capacity will jump above 5000mAh, giving you plenty of power to get through a heavy day of use without needing a charger.
The foldable phone has a slim profile and two large screens
Apple is also finalizing the details of its first foldable smartphone. The device has a book-style design that opens to reveal a large 7.8-inch internal display. When it’s off, users can interact with the standard 5.5-inch external screen. The company uses a liquid metal hinge to keep the internal display completely flawless.
When fully extended, the frame measures a very thin 4.5 millimeters. It will run on the powerful A20 Pro processor and C2 modem like the Pro models. However, leaks suggest that the foldable version will rely on Touch ID instead of facial recognition for security.
The shift to custom modems and advanced folding screens highlights a major shift in the way Apple builds its hardware. Consumers around the world can expect faster speeds and better battery life when these premium devices hit store shelves later this fall.
