Apple is rumored to be adding an AI feature for creating shortcuts in natural language to the Shortcuts app in iOS 27, but MacStories‘ Federico Viticci has a smart AI tool for creating shortcuts that you can use today.
Shortcuts Playground is a plugin for Claude Code and OpenAI Codex that can create shortcuts for the Apple Shortcuts app using natural language input. It’s configured to let users type in a short phrase requesting a shortcut, with the final version going to the Finder and ready to load into Apple’s Shortcuts app in minutes.
Viticci made Shortcuts Playground open source and open source, and the plugin is available on GitHub. Viticci has provided detailed documentation on how it works, and anyone can test the code. Although Claude Code or Codex can correct errors during the shortcut creation process, Viticci cautions that the generated shortcuts are not guaranteed to be 100 percent accurate, and users should always check the AI’s work.
To find the Shortcuts Playground, give the Claude Code or OpenAI Codex GitHub repo link, and the agent will find the plugin marketplace and install it. Viticci has several prototype shortcuts, including one that remembers the location of a parked car and guides the driver back to it, and one that adjusts several night display settings while activating Focus mode.
Club MacStories+ and Premier members can find Shortcuts Playground as a productive shortcut. Once the main plugin is installed on the Mac, there is an option to create additional shortcuts using the shortcut and install them directly on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Viticci also releases a redesigned MacStories Shortcuts archive with over 400 pre-built options. More information about Playground Shortcuts can be found at MacStories.
