Aqara has expanded its smart lock ambitions in the UK with a new launch U500 seriesrange of It is relevant to the issue locks designed for door types that are generally not supported by smart retrofit locks. The list currently consists of Smart Gate Lock U500, Smart Glass Door Lock U500again Smart Rim Lock U500to include the installation of the gates, glass doors, metal doors, metal doorsand traditional Top mounted rim lock to set up.
Unlike Aqara’s more deadbolt-focused products, the U500 range appears to be targeting specialist UK door formats. This follows a company-wide move towards unconventional installations beyond the standard North American systems, with Aqara focusing on collaboration across all types of departments in Europe and Asia.
All three U500 models are built around Matter over Thread connectivity, which allows integration with major ecosystems including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant, as long as users have a compatible Matter controller and Thread border router. The existing Aqara U-series is supported Apple HomeKey, NFC, application controller, temporary passcodesagain to reach farwith many of these features extending to the U500 range. However, unlike the company’s deadbolt like the U400 (video HERE, review HERE) these keys do not appear to be compatible with UWB (Ultra WideBand) support.
Aqara says the lock includes gyroscope-based automatic locking, which automatically secures gates or doors when closed, alongside a “Do Not Disturb” mode to reduce sounds and notifications. This company includes ‘One Tap Dual Unlock’which allows multiple Aqara keys to be activated simultaneously. Powered by four AA batteries, Aqara quotes up to seven months of battery life, while a USB-C emergency power the input provides backup access if the batteries run out.
Like the latest Aqara smart keys, the U500 series also stores credentials locally using AES encryption rather than relying solely on cloud-based credential storage. Aqara continues to promote localization and automation within its ecosystem, especially as Matter adoption expands across platforms.

The Smart Glass Door Lock U500 is mainly intended for offices, apartment entrances, shopping areas, and commercial areas using frameless or special glass doors, while the Smart Rim Lock U500 is designed for regions and buildings where mounted rims are common. Together, the range positions Aqara as one of the few domestic brands that attempts to address a much wider range of global doors than just focusing on deadbolt installations.
