In this week’s episode of the MacRumors Show, we talk about all the big rumors surrounding Apple’s announcements at WWDC 2026.
The event’s tagline, “All Systems Glow,” is widely seen as a hint at Siri’s new design. BloombergMark Gurman reported that Apple is rebuilding Siri as a full chatbot to compete with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, complete with a dedicated app, Dynamic Island integration, and a system-wide search interface wrapped in a dark, glowing aesthetic like the WWDC logo. Siri’s dedicated app for back-and-forth conversations is said to be modeled on iMessage, with voice input and the ability to attach photos and documents. Users will reportedly be able to set chat history to automatically clear after 30 days, one year, or never.
A new system interface called “Search or Ask” is said to replace Siri Suggestions entirely, which is initiated by swiping down from the top center of the screen. From there, users can launch apps, start scripts, set reminders, trigger Shortcuts, or query Apple’s new AI web search, which Gurman says Apple has positioned as a Perplexity competitor. The results appear as a flash card on Dynamic Island, and a swipe opens the full Siri app. The Notification Center moves with a swipe to the top left, while the Control Center remains on the top right.
The new Siri will reportedly be able to answer multi-part questions, retain the context of a conversation, summarize uploaded documents, generate images, and map personal data across third-party apps such as Email, Messages, Photos, Notes, Contacts, Calendar, and Reminders. Apple is powering its new AI features with a custom model based on Google’s Gemini, after its models reportedly failed. Gurman says that the personal Siri still carries the “beta” label on the internals, and there is a “strong possibility” that it will go that way.
iOS 27 will also introduce an “Extensions” feature that lets users choose which AI app powers Siri, with a dedicated App Store section for third-party integrations. Users will reportedly be able to set ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and others as the default for Writing Tools, Picture Play, and more, with third-party responses using a different voice so users can see who’s talking. Apple is reportedly holding talks with developers about deep agent integration, and is said to replace Core ML with a new Core AI framework.
Apple has reportedly given the Camera app a major overhaul, moving Visual Intelligence from the camera control button to a dedicated Siri mode within the app. Apple is said to make the interface fully customizable with a widget tray, allowing users to adjust controls such as flash, exposure, timer, and depth of field. Visual Intelligence is said to also gain the ability to scan nutrition labels for tracking in the Health app and learn contact information from business cards.
Photos is said to be getting three new AI editing tools alongside the existing Clean Up feature. “Extend” produces content beyond the original frame, “Refresh” changes the view of local images, and “Enhance” uses default color and brightness adjustments. Writing Tools is reportedly getting a grammar checker with controls for accepting and rejecting each suggestion, and the keyboard’s auto-correction is said to receive Grammarly-style word suggestions.
Apple is reportedly redesigning Image Playground with a simpler interface and new models that produce lifelike images. Genmoji is allegedly getting a new model that improves quality and reduces battery drain, with Genmoji’s Suggested feature drawing on user media and messages. AI-generated wallpapers are also reportedly coming, with Image Playground built into the background picker.
The Wallet app is said to be gaining a “Create a Pass” feature to digitize physical tickets and membership cards, and Apple Cash is reportedly getting a bill split feature that allows users to capture a receipt, hand out items, and send payment requests via Wallet or Messages. Shortcuts are said to get a natural language interface for building automation by definition.
Other notable changes include a wider Liquid Glass opacity slider for the system that Apple may not have been able to implement in iOS 26, the option to add content to other AirPlay methods such as Google Cast (reportedly EU-only as a DMA requirement), and expanded satellite features including Apple Maps and satellite image sharing.
Apple also previewed a variety of accessibility improvements ahead of WWDC, including AI-enabled explanations in VoiceOver and Magnifier, an improved Accessibility Reader for complex text structures, automatic video captions generated on the device, and a new FaceTime API for live sign language interpretation. In visionOS, Apple adds Power Wheelchair Control using Vision Pro for eye tracking, Vehicle Motion Cues for users traveling in cars, and support for facial gestures for system actions.
Leaker “Instant Digital” claims that iOS 27 will drop support for the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE, which require at least the iPhone 12, with Apple Intelligence continuing to require the iPhone 15 Pro or newer. macOS 27 is said to share the same enhancements to Siri and Apple Intelligence, as well as improvements to Liquid Glass and the same performance focus. It will reportedly be Apple silicon only, dropping all remaining Intel Macs, and is said to be the final release to include full Rosetta support.
Gurman described iOS 27 as a “Snow Leopard” update, with Apple prioritizing stability, code cleaning, and battery life benefits as well as new features. The keynote begins on June 8 at 10 am Pacific Time, with developer betas expected on the same day and a public release in September.
