Yamaha has just announced the RX300A and RX500A, two new AV receivers that will be taking their place in the company’s entry-level and step-up AV lineup. Both RX Series units are said to be capable of delivering Dolby Atmos immersion, 4K/120Hz HDMI support for gamers, 8K video, and enhanced wireless streaming. (Spoiler alert: We already like what we see here.)
The RX300A, a 5.2-channel Dolby Atmos AV receiver (shown above), serves as the direct successor to the company’s first-class RX-V385, while the RX500A, a 7.2-channel Dolby Atmos AV receiver, introduces a new value to Yamaha’s AV performance class.
“RX300A and RX500A [shown below] bridge the gap between soundbars and true theater based AV receivers,” said Alex Sadeghian, director of consumer audio marketing at Yamaha, in an official press release.
Both RX Series AV receivers feature what the company calls “a completely new cosmetic design that reflects a modern, streamlined approach to home theater components.” Compared to previous models, the front panel looks clean and intuitive, with fewer buttons and simplified labeling that reduces visual clutter while keeping key controls within easy reach.
Inside, both of these receivers are built on the 40-year legacy of Yamaha AV receiver development and reflect the company’s True Sound design philosophy, by (in their own words now) “paying careful attention to circuit design, signal paths, and vibration control to preserve clarity, power, and spatial accuracy. Dolby Atmos and DTS and spatial dialogue enable three sound effects within the DTS sound field, enhancing the realism of all films, television, sports, and music.”
Both of these AV receivers have inherited the Anti Resonance Technology (ART) Wedge – a centrally mounted “fifth foot” – from Yamaha’s flagship VENTAGE models. This well-placed fifth foot is said to help reduce vibration and improve stability to support cleaner, more accurate sound reproduction.
HDMI 2.1 compatibility supports high-performance video sources, including 4K/120Hz and 8K/60Hz pass-through, as well as Dolby Vision™ and HDR10+ for enhanced contrast, color accuracy and detail. Gaming-focused features, such as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), help ensure smooth, responsive gaming when paired with modern consoles.
The included setup microphone (seen below, just to the left of the 300A) enables automatic room adjustment by measuring room acoustics and speaker behavior, allowing the receiver to optimize audio performance in the listening environment. An on-screen setup guide is available to walk users through step-by-step connection and setup.
Both receivers feature Scene buttons, which are said to make everyday operations easier by allowing users to recall complete system settings with a single press. Each Scene Button can be programmed to select an input, audio mode, and other key parameters, with the goal of making it easy to seamlessly switch between activities such as watching TV, streaming music, or gaming.
A direct successor to Yamaha’s RX V385, the RX300A adds new enhancements including support for Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual: X, 4K/120Hz and 8K/60Hz video compatibility, sports features such as ALLM and VRR, dual subwoofer outputs that can target users simultaneously switch between two sources without reconnecting — improved build quality, and a guide Updated on-screen setup with simple menus.
The RX300A supports Dolby Atmos in flexible speaker configurations, including 3.2.2 channel with overhead or in-ceiling speakers, and 5.2 channel with virtual height processing.
Meanwhile, the RX500A (shown above, with microphone and remote control) builds on the RX300A platform by sporting 7.2 channel amplification, which is said to offer “greater output power and flexibility for larger rooms and more complex speaker structures.”
Dolby Atmos unit support enables multi-height speaker configurations, including ceiling, overhead, and virtual buildings. These options allow the RX500A to (in its own words) “create a larger, more immersive soundstage with increased volume and impact.” It also supports DTS:X.
In addition to Bluetooth Multipoint, the RX500A includes built-in Wi Fi and Ethernet connectivity, to enable high-quality music streaming via Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, net radio, and more.
Pricing and availability are as follows. The Yamaha RX300A 5.2-channel AV receiver is available this month, June 2026, and sports an SRP of $399.95. The Yamaha RX500A 7.2 channel AV receiver is expected to be available in September 2026, and boasts an SRP of $599.95.
