FREE ENTRY FOR POWER HANDS UWB

At the heart of the new lock is Schlage Converge, a technology that combines UWB and Apple HomeKey to provide hands-free entry. Unlike automatic unlocking systems based on geofencing, Schlage says Converge can determine a user’s intent to log in by analyzing factors such as speed, trajectory, and movement. According to the company, the lock unlocks as the user approaches the door, providing a more seamless experience than systems that rely solely on proximity detection.

The Sense Pro is Schlage’s first smart lock to support Matter over Thread, allowing it to be integrated with Apple Home and other Matter-compatible platforms. When paired with a Thread Border Router, such as HomePod mini, HomePod (second generation), or a compatible Apple TV 4K model, the lock can communicate using Thread for low latency and reliable smart home connectivity. The key can be controlled within the Apple Home app and integrated into automation alongside other smart home accessories.

HOME OPERATING SYSTEM BUILT IN WITH WI-FI AND SCHLAGE

In addition to Thread connectivity, the key includes built-in Wi-Fi, which allows remote access via the Schlage Home app. Users can lock and unlock the door remotely, create and manage up to 250 access codes, configure auto-lock schedules, and customize lock settings. The Schlage Home app also offers three hands-free opening modes – Intuitive, Touch, and Delay – allowing users to customize the opening experience according to their preferences.

BATTERY LIFE AND EMERGENCY POWER

Schlage says the Sense Pro offers up to six months of battery life under typical use. The lock provides low-battery notifications both on the touchscreen keypad and within the Schlage Home app. When the batteries run out, the key features a USB-C boot port, which allows temporary power to be supplied to regain access.

ALIRO SUPPORT IS COMING LATER THIS YEAR

Sense Pro is also Aliro compatible and is expected to support Aliro digital keys in Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet once certification is completed later this year. This will allow supported Android devices equipped with UWB to use hands-free unlocking, while NFC-enabled devices will be able to use the tap to unlock function.

AVAILABILITY

The Schlage Sense Pro Smart Deadbolt will be available starting June 29 for $399 through Schlage.com, Amazon, Lowe’s, and The Home Depot. In Canada, the lock will be available for CAD$549 through The Home Depot and other participating retailers.

Sense Pro is also one of the first locks to challenge the recently released Aqara U400 (video HERE, review HERE)which arrived earlier this year with Matter over Thread, Apple HomeKey, and Ultra Wideband support. Both locks look set to benefit from Aliro’s growing standard, which promises cross-platform digital key support in the Apple, Google, and Samsung ecosystems. That said, UWB-based hands-free unlocking is currently not part of the Aliro specification at the time of writing, making the Sense Pro and U400 among the first smart locks to offer this next generation of access technology. With two major manufacturers now supporting the feature, the field of hands-free UWB activation options is finally starting to expand.
