With the World Cup coming up and the amazing weather, there has been interest in portable projectors that can be taken outside.
The problem is to find a good portable projector – Amazon’s sales are often full of cheap outdoor projectors, but you’ll want to invest your hard-earned money in one that gives you the AV quality, battery life and easy setup that equals a good game.
However, we have good news. There’s a portable projector in the early Prime Day sale that we’ve tried and tested ourselves, and we can confirm that it’s an outdoor device we recommend. In fact, the Anker Nebula Mars 3 Air is ours favorite an outdoor and portable projector – and it’s currently available for £339 on Amazon.
That’s the lowest price we’ve seen for the Mars 3 Air, though keep in mind you’ll have to be a Prime member to get this deal.
If you’re looking for a quick, easy, hassle-free setup to minimize the chances of missing a match, then it’s hard to look past the Anker Nebula Mars 3 Air.
With a built-in battery, speakers and wi-fi, it controls itself, so once you’ve got it in place, there’s no need to add any other kit to make it work – just fire up the Google TV operating system and go. It will automatically adjust the image to make sure everything looks right.
The handle makes it easy enough to handle, and it’s well-built and well-designed enough that it will look great in any room of the house.
The maximum image size is 150 inches, but we find the Mars 3 Air loses some of its brightness at full size. We recommend an image size between 70 inches and 90 inches for the best balance of light and scale.
And the most important picture? A step above the rest in this size and price range.
“First, we were impressed that everything is sharp and detailed,” reads our review of the Anker Nebula Mars 3 Air. “Despite the fact that the projector uses (like all portable models) a small lens aperture, every pixel and texture of a beautiful HD source is rendered faithfully, adding to a truly dense, smooth, cinematic finish to the image with little evidence of visible pixel structure.”
Sound performance is also a cut above, with a pair of 8-watt speakers producing an expansive soundstage with strong bass. We’d like more volume, but the Mars 3 Air doesn’t disappoint on the audio front.
There is also a built-in battery rated for 2.5 hours of free play on mains. This will depend on your lighting and volume settings, of course, but this should be long enough for a World Cup game.
Like the World Cup projector, the Anker Nebula Mars 3 Air is compact, feature-packed and bright enough for outdoor use. And it’s even more affordable now, thanks to a £211 discount on Amazon for Prime members.
