What you need to know
- Ticketmaster announced its partnership with Google Wallet, bringing “personalized passes” to Android.
- Event clients can customize their digital passes with fancy designs and up to 12 links to key location information.
- Users benefit from this last note, as they can get information about parking, food, drinks, merchandise, and VIP access directly from their passes.
This summer will be full of events of all kinds. To try to help, Ticketmaster announced a partnership with Google Wallet to get unique digital passes on Android.
Ticketmaster says it’s working on Google Wallet with “customized passes” designed for a “branded experience” on Android. Mobile ticketing passes are stored in Google Wallet, but Ticketmaster says the new approach provides a new sense of “brand presence.” Brands can offer customized hero portraits, travel artwork, and more.
If you attend a band stop on their national tour, you might see unique album artwork or sports game visuals if you go to an NFL game.
Apart from the brilliant appearance, these customizable passes are very useful for you, the user. Ticketmaster says customers can add “up to 12 action links per pass.” These links will direct visitors to important event locations. Links to parking, transportation, gate information, VIP upgrades, and food/drinks can be found on these passes. This removes the need for users to do more research before heading out or leading up to an event/game day.
The post says that tapping the parking link will open a map of the area, so you can plan where to go. Additionally, users can download the managed app for that event on their Android device through these links if they wish.
Digital passes continue to evolve
Digital passes and tickets have been a big part of Google Wallet for years now. The company has introduced a handy update to Wallet, which can automatically generate the pass you might need. “Content awareness” is what drives this feature. Google says that as a user approaches a location, such as a train station, the Wallet app will generate a train ticket on their lock screen.
This eliminates the need for users to unlock their phones, navigate to the Wallet app, and select their appropriate pass. Google says this capability extends to airport gates, concert venues, and stores. Considering this new relationship with Ticketmaster, maybe something like this could happen with these customized passes.
Android Central Take
I love this relationship, and this is coming from a sports guy. Preparing my tickets for game day is an exciting experience. I can only think of a White Sox or Bears ticket using the new Ticketmaster pass system. The hype will be false. In addition, these links can help navigate the parking lot in case something changes.
