SmartSetup has announced its new Smart Wall Dimmera Enabled story in-wall dimmer switch used Series instead of Wi-Fi, it brings faster, more resilient connectivity to Apple Home and other smart home platforms compatible with Matter.
Compatible with Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, Amazon Alexa, and the rest of the Matter ecosystem with a compatible Matter controller, the dimmer takes advantage of Matter over Threada combination that continues to gain traction in smart home devices due to its low energy performance, local connectivity, and self-sustaining mesh network.
STORY BEYOND THE FIELD
For Apple Home users, Matter over Thread offers several advantages over Matter over Wi-Fi. Series devices build their own network with self-healing slots, and automatically reroute if individual devices are not available. This not only improves reliability but can also help expand coverage as more Tread devices are added throughout the home. Because communication remains local, commands and automations continue to run independently of cloud services, as long as there is a compatible Thread Border Router.
CONVERTIBLE INSTALLATION
One of the most attractive features of the Smart Wall Dimmer is its installation flexibility. It can be wired using a traditional three-wire configuration with a center connection or a two-wire installation without a neutral, making it suitable for many older homes where center wires may not be available in the switch box.
The dimmer also incorporates automatic light source detection, allowing it to optimize the performance of a range of compatible lighting technologies while providing adjustable minimum dimming levels and adjustable start brightness.
ENERGY MONITORING
Beyond lighting control, the Smart Wall Dimmer includes built-in energy monitoring, allowing users to view real-time energy usage from within their favorite Matter platform where supported. The device also includes a slow-start function, which reduces electrical stress when lighting the lights, while its flame-resistant housing is designed for standard residential installations.
COMMUNICATION OF LIGHT
The Smart Wall Dimmer supports a wide range of non-dimmable lighting technologies, including:
- Incandescent bulbs are standard
- High voltage halogen lighting
- ELV halogen lamps with electronic transformers
- MLV halogen lamps with ferromagnetic transformers
- Dimmable LED lights
- Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) are out
Support is also available for non-switchable low-power loads from 3VA when used in conjunction with the optional SmartSetup Bypass module.
