Nanoleaf announced the Smart Multicolor Ceiling Lightnew flush mounted lighting designed to combine bright room lighting and ambient accent lighting in one space. It is compatible Importantlight includes Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and other smart home platforms powered by Matter.
IT’S MADE FOR BOTH WORK AND TIMELESS LIGHT
Unlike most smart ceiling lights that offer only one light source, the Smart Multicolor Ceiling Light includes aindependent controllable front and rear lights. I light in front brings up to 2,600 lumenswhich provides enough light in the rooms until 150 sq ftwhile supporting adjustable white light from 2,200K ~ 6,500Kand more 16 million colors.
A rear facing light it projects a diffused halo on the ceiling, creating a soft ambient light. Users can use the front light, the background halo, or both together, which allows the stamp to switch between active daily lighting and more decorative effects. At just over an inch thick and 13.8 inches wide, the light sits close to the ceiling while providing a subtle luminous halo near the surface.
This design is not new though, as Yeelight has produced two similar lamps for many years, except that Matter or HomeKit support most of their lamps.
COLOR EFFECTS OF MULTIPLE SINS
The fixture contains 364 individually addressable LEDs arranged on the other side 28 independently controlled four colorsit gives strength animated lighting effects beyond both the main light and the background halo. Nanoleaf claims that light provides a CRI of 95 accurate color reproduction, and RG0 is the low blue light ratio designed to reduce eye strain during prolonged use.
DIFFICULT FEATURES
The Ceiling Light can be controlled using a standard wall switch (to disconnect it from your smart home), the Nanoleaf app, voice assistants, or the Nanoleaf Sense+ Smart Wireless Switch, which adds movement and sensing during the day.
Within the Nanoleaf app, users can create schedules, customize lighting scenes, and access several advanced features, including:
- Rhythmic Music Visualization, which synchronizes light effects with music.
- Screen Mirror, which extends the colors from the TV or computer display to the ceiling.
- AI Magic Scenes, which allow users to generate customized lighting effects using simple text commands.
COMMUNICATION OF NEWS
The Smart Multicolor Ceiling Light supports Matter, allowing it to be integrated with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and other platforms compatible with Matter. One disappointing aspect of the announcement, however, is Nanoleaf’s continued thread in favor of Matter over Wi-Fi. The company was among Thread’s early adopters, with its Essentials lineup helping to demonstrate the protocol’s benefits long before Matter arrived. Since then, a growing number of its new Matter products rely on Wi-Fi instead.
While this latest decision may not come as a surprise, it’s still hard not to see it as a step backwards. Unlike battery-powered devices, the permanently wired ceiling light has no obvious power constraints that would prevent the use of Thread, and a high-powered Thread device will also strengthen the surrounding Thread mesh network. Nanoleaf did not explain why it chose Wi-Fi in this instance, although factors such as low hardware costs, simplified product design, or broader market considerations may have influenced the decision. Whatever the reason, it marks another departure from a company that was once one of Thread’s staunchest advocates.
