Aqara Releases Regional Version of S100 Touchscreen Switch

Published:

Aqara released its new version S100 Touchscreen switchh, designed specifically for consumer markets horizontally mounted electrical boxes are behind the US styleincluding Taiwan. While retaining the same basic functionality as the existing North American model, the updated design makes the S100 ideal for homes where this style of switchgear is commonly used.

The new model extends the availability of Aqara’s smart wall switch without requiring changes to local power standards, giving users access to a versatile smart home controller in a format designed for their region. Like the North American model, this variant still requires a neutral wire.

BUILT FOR LOCAL INSTALLATION

Although familiar in appearance, the main difference with this version of the S100 is its horizontal design. The redesigned housing allows it to fit the US-style horizontal wall boxes commonly found in Taiwan and some other markets, while maintaining the same premium look and feature set. Aqara has also modified the two physical switches to retain a natural downward pressing action. Despite this change, simply flipping the North American version to install horizontally will leave the switches running on the sides instead. For homeowners and installers, this means that the S100 can be integrated into existing appliances without the need for adapters or modifications.

TOUCHSCREEN CONTROL

Besides the two physical changes, the S100 features ia 3.95” color touch screen which provides direct access to compatible Aqara devices, scenes and automations. The display is designed to provide an intuitive way to interact with the smart home, allowing users to control multiple accessories from a single wall-mounted interface. The screen can also be customized with different layouts and background images, allowing users to customize the interface to their liking.

SUBJECT AND PROFESSIONAL

Besides its role as a smart switch, the S100 also works as a Thread Border Router. Next to the traditional support of Matter via Wi-Fi, this allows it to integrate compatible Thread devices in the local network within the supported ecosystem. As more and more smart home devices use Matter and Thread, the S100 is well-positioned to become an integral part of the modern smart home, while also providing simple touchscreen control of Aqara devices and automation through the Aqara Home platform.

AVAILABILITY

While this release does not introduce new functionality compared to the North American version, it does represent a significant expansion of the S100’s availability. By redesigning the switch for US-style horizontally mounted electrical boxes, Aqara makes its flagship smart wall controller accessible to users in Taiwan and other related markets, bringing its combination of touchscreen control, Matter support and smart home integration to a wider audience.
