Now that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is official, we can start speculating about the Galaxy Z Flip 9. Over the years, we might have a leak or two about the specs or design of the next model now, but the Z Flip 9 rumors point in a completely different direction: the end of the Z Flip line.
Ahead of the announcement of the Galaxy Z Flip 8, another rumor claims that this will be the last of Samsung’s eight-generation Flip phones. This comes from leaker Ice Universe, known for accurate information on upcoming devices, but, like any leaked information, it may come from a meeting where Samsung floated the idea of ending the Z Flip line rather than an official decision to end it.
While the leak didn’t provide much detail beyond “Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 may be Samsung’s last small foldable product,” it’s possible that a combination of declining sales and market conditions is causing Samsung to rethink every product it makes.
With the arrival of the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the coming onslaught of “fun-sized” foldables, Samsung and other players may shift their focus to flip-style phones. Whatever happens, we’ll be collecting all the rumors and leaks from between now and the expected release of the Galaxy Z Flip 9.
Galaxy Z Flip 9: Price and availability
Samsung’s next foldable phone announcement, possibly including the Galaxy Z Flip 9, should take place in July 2027. Samsung has been using the mid-to-late summer date to wrap up its phone and wearable announcements, and we expect that to continue next year.
As the prices of electronics continue to rise, we expect another increase in the price of the Galaxy Z Flip 9, especially if the prices of RAM and storage continue to rise, as predicted due to the growth of AI data. One of the Z Flip’s biggest selling points has always been its lower price compared to the Z Fold, and another price hike could spell trouble for the Z Flip lineup.
What to expect from the Galaxy Z Flip 9
It’s been a while since we saw a great redesign of the Z Flip series. The Z Flip 8 also reduces the thickness of the series, but since it is not as thin as the Z Fold 8, it is possible that the Z Flip 9 will continue to reduce the series. Samsung has started using silicon-carbon in its batteries (5% silicon content in the Z Flip 8), which means it can continue to increase battery capacity and reduce the size of the physical battery, enabling thinner and lighter phones.
Since the cover display already takes up the entire front of the phone on the Z Flip 8, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any changes to its physical appearance on the Flip 9. Samsung’s new titanium screen protector has greatly reduced the inner crease on the Z Fold 8 series, and the Flip 9 could do well with more shrinkage, too.
There was a rumor that the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s Privacy Display will start going to other Samsung phones in 2027, and that could include the company’s high-end foldables like the Galaxy Z Flip 9. Even if this phone doesn’t get that technology, it needs to address the PWM level, since Samsung is lagging behind such competitors in eye care.
I would also like to see Samsung add a telephoto camera to the Z Flip 9. Basically all flip-style phones include a main and ultrawide camera, but few have tried to offer some kind of “Pro-level zoom” as a non-folding flagship in this price range.
