Apple has released important software for iOS 18 users who have held back and avoided iOS 26 for whatever reason. Specifically, iOS 18.7.7 for all iPhone models running iOS 18 (not running iOS 26 or newer), and iPadOS 18.7.7 for all iPad users with iOS 18 (also not running iPadOS 26 or newer), are both available as security updates. The iOS 18.7.7 update includes important security updates so it is recommended that all users install them, because some of the security issues fixed by the update are known to be exploited. No new features or changes have been included otherwise. <\/p>\n

Also, the iOS 18.7.7 update is aimed specifically at iPhone and iPad devices that are still running iOS 18, but are compatible but have not yet had the iOS 26 updates. There are a fair number of people who are strategically avoiding iOS 26 for any number of reasons, and this update is able to provide them with important security updates, without them having to jump to version 26+. <\/p>\n

Even without the release of iOS\/iPadOS 18.7.7, Apple has been on a software update program recently, releasing a number of updates for multiple devices, including iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, MacOS Tahoe 26.4, MacOS Sequoia 15.7.5, MacOS Sonoma 14.2OS 4.5.5. watchOS 8.8.2, and watchOS 5.3.10, iOS 16.7.15, iOS 15.8.7, among other basic updates for all Apple devices that are still supported. How to Download and Install iOS 18.7.7 \/ iPadOS 18.7.7 Update<\/h2>\n

Be sure to back up your iPhone or iPad in iCloud before starting any software update.<\/p>\n

  1. Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone or iPad<\/li>\n
  2. Go to “General”, then go to “Software Update”<\/li>\n
  3. Ignore the promotion for the huge iOS 26 \/ iPadOS 26 update, and instead scroll down and look for the \u201cAlso Available\u201d section and tap on \u201ciOS 18.7.7\u201d or iPadOS 18.7.8<\/li>\n

  4. Choose to download and install iOS 18.7.7 \/ iPadOS 18.7.7 update<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Your iPhone or iPad will restart to complete the installation. <\/p>\n

    Does this mean we can downgrade from iOS 26.4 to iOS 18.7.7 or ipadOS 18.7.7?<\/h3>\n

    If you’re the type of person who sees reviews like this and immediately thinks “maybe I should take it down”, you’re certainly not alone. But maybe not, and downgrading iOS 26.4 to iOS 18.7.7 is almost impossible.<\/p>\n

    For whatever reason, Apple does not widely distribute iOS 18.7.7 updates as IPSW files to all devices, so for those curious users who were thinking of using iOS 18.7.7 IPSW to downgrade iOS 26, it is impossible. <\/p>\n

    Interestingly, there is an iPadOS 18.7.7 IPSW for one older iPad 9 model, so it may have been used to downgrade that particular device, but that remains to be confirmed. <\/p>\n
